Since LR don't seem to be coming forward in supplying a later than 11/12 sat nav disc for the D3 i will look at getting some discs in for 11/12 and do the best i can discount wise
quite a few people have asked recently so heres what i can do

How can I tell which version I currently have in the car? - The disc has no label on it.
Hmm. I have secret-screened my way to something which says the Disc Data Version is 07/03/23/01.
Does that mean that it dates back to 2007?

If it helps, I just put my 2011-12 disc in my PC and there is a VERSION.TXT file which contains :-
COMMENT=2011 ver.1

There should be no problem upgrading, looks like you are going to be upgrading from the oldest to the newest available, which is what I also did. As well as the updated roads, you will get more POI including LR Dealers. Also maybe my imaagination but I think there is more clarity in some of the road names and more detail in some screens.
Also in case you have not had it done, you may also want invest in activating Satnav on the move, unless it has already been done, so you can enter postcodes whilst you are still moving.
