A ‘thwack’ from the front |
|
This is strange.
I’ve started hearing a sort of sprung ‘thwack’ from somewhere in the front, about a minute or two after starting the car. Only been happening the last few weeks.
Sounds like from center console come passenger side, as if something under tension is suddenly being let go.
Doesn’t always happen, more not than does, and when it does it always catches me out so I’m not paying attention.
I’m thinking ventilation flaps, but I’ve tried playing with various buttons for screen, face, legs, temperature, aircon and recirculating and cannot ‘force it’ to happen.
Anyone got any ideas where else I could look?
Thanks
Andy

Have you checked whether starter motor is loose as it could be the recoil of the starter gear

Check if the Aux belt tensioner is sitting at a funny angle. It should be parallel to the engine block.
Sound travels to funny places!

Thanks guys.
Checked both and look ok.
It is definitely a plasticy ‘thwack’ s when the wing mirrors spring back if knocked out of place then retracted/extended.
Only happens the once after starting, usually a minute or two after, and perhaps then only one in ten times the car is started.
Was wondering about one of the ventilation system diverters was getting stuck somewhere during a position change, and was hoping that someone would be able to suggest a likely/common culprit, but that’s because I haven’t been able to reliably repro the isssue.
When I get the chance, will have a closer look.

Mine does the same.
It is definitely something to do with the ventilation system.
Think it senses that warm air is available so opens and sends it to the cabin?.
Doesn't do it when in manual mode.
If you turn the temp up in auto you get the noise then.
