Battery Life

Hi guys,

Can anyone give me a clue as to the average life of the battery on a Disco 3?.
I have a 2006 HSE with 75 k miles which I have owned for 4 years and it is the original battery. The alternator was renewed a couple of years ago which totaly dissabled the car and I don't want the same to happen if the battery packs up. Also, if I do renew it which is best?

Thanks in advance,

I'd usually budget for a battery life of about five years

I changed mine in September 2014.

The car was registered in April 2009 - but built in July 2008. I decided the build date was the relevant one.

I would guess around 7 years though mine was nearly 10 years old but they do start throwing up electrical faults with terrain response system

You're doing well if it is indeed the original battery. For peace of mind it may be worthwhile changing the battery for the recommended Exide Premium 017TE

Mine had a battery August 2013. I purchased the vehicle 7 months ago and I've just had to replace it due to getting the suspension failure warning soon after starting due to voltage issues. Even though the battery would of past every test normally carried out it still wasn't up to running the D3. The site has plenty of threads relating to tired batteries so you are right to keep an eye on it. I doubt very much if the cars with a twin batt set up suffer this and feel the single battery set up is marginal in the d3. My vw phaeton has a very similar demand on it's electrics and suffers with electrical gremlins if the body elec batt is weak and consequently is fitted with 2 to prevent premature failure of battery

6 replies in less than 1 hour - fantastic!

It looks like I will get a new one asap and I can use the old one on a fork lift truck I have.
Is there a special procedure for fitting or can I just take out the old and put the new?

Just make sure you let the car 'go to sleep' before removing the old one Whistle

I changed my battery just before Christmas. The old one was dated 0305. Ten years is good going for any battery in my book.

Where does it show the manufacturing date on the battery? Is it easy to see without removing it?

Not sure if mine has been replaced before I got the car.
