Engine fault code Turbo boost valve and black smoke

Hi All

My D3 is smoking like a battleship under load and seems sluggish. I have checked the top hose and cannot see or feel any splits in the usual place or as far as I can reach, although it did seem not fully on at the bottom and the interior of the hose was quite oily. Turbo used to kick in at about 2200 rpm now seems nearer 2700. The engine fault message comes on and the codes refer to EGR valve issues(which I had blanked off about 3 years ago) and a fault in the turbo boost valve. I slackened off the jubilee clips and re-seated the hose.

Is it worth taking the hose completely off for a more thorough inspection, is it difficult to replace? The only reason I ask is that I need the old boy for work and don't want to get stranded with a partly disassembled car.

If it is not the hose, where would you recommend I look next?

Cheers

maybe a leak in the intercooler.
if there are any oil patches on it, this maybe a sign.

I would remove all 3 hoses and inspect first.

My approach to locating air leaks is a pressure test (15psi or less) from turbo intake pipe to manifold joint. It takes a little improvisation to setup, but is fairly easy.

One end a blank 61mm (from memory) disc/plug, and the other end 61mm disc with a hole for air input. I used a disc from a seal insert tool, perfect size.

Only dismantling on car is to remove the air pipe across top of radiator and undo the pipe going into the manifold branch.

A word of caution. If either end is not secure, compressed air could push the disc out with some momentum.
