turns over but won't start

2012 HSE....have been out this morning, car running fine. Left it on the drive for about 30 mins, and when I got back it it wouldn't start. The car turns over but doesn't fire. I disconnected the battery and when I reconnected it started first time, ran and idled fine but cut out again after 30 secs or so. Now back to the same state of turning over but not firing. I'll get the codes read on Monday, but any ideas in the meantime?

She was filled up with Diesel on Monday night. Done 150 miles since with about half a tank showing.

Update: whatever the fault, it seems to reset itself. Left the car locked up for two hours and then it started first time, and ran perfectly for about 5 minutes, no funny noises and nice smooth idle, but then just died again. After that it won't restart. I'm sure if I go back in another hour it'll be fine again. I'm assuming some kind of injection or sensor fault. Will get it code read on Monday.

Update: started fine this morning and then left me stranded at the side of the road 5 miles later. The RAC's computer says the Crankshaft Position Sensor is at fault, presumably only when at temperature hence why it clears over time. The car was recovered to Rovertune today so hopefully a quick fix.
