Tabbed Bearings for D4
The Main bearings being used in the latest D4 engines are tabbed bearings to prevent spinning in the housing.
I am led to believe that these were used from either 2010 or 2011 although i have only been told this by someone who provided me with bearings for my engine.
If anybody has taken apart a late D4 engine they will be able to confirm this.
Also i believe that the bearings for the mains and bigends are now sputtered bearings which are more suitable to high performance engines and therefore take higher loadings.
Where please can one acquire these bearings - could they be retrofitted to an earlier engine?

I got them from a supplier on eBay who has the genuine 2.7 and 3.0 crankshafts.
Only the Mains bearing is tabbed and to fit them to the earlier engine the Mains cap will need to be machined to accept the tab
, that is what I intend to do with mine.
Your profile isn't complete; are you fitting to an early D4 or a D3 ?

Many thanks - very interesting.

Bearing caps would have to be machined out to accept the tabs.It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

Start stop are in mind of the engineers that design the engine and put this bearings into. The start stop work harder on bearings because dry starts and althought compression and radial force when tightening bearing cap are main reasons for not moving, the bearing tab help keeping the bearings at place too.

He has raised the price by £100 since last listing
Obviously cash is king as he saves on ebay fees and paypal fees as well as post and packing costs as they are heavy. (All these fees and charges sure do add up)
I had a call from a jaguar parts specialist a couple of days ago as i had asked them if they could get the official crankshafts but at the time they couldn't. They said - like many others - that they could not get the cranks from Jaguar as none in the country and none being supplied at the moment, but that they had found an alternative supplier for genuine cranks and bearings and would i like to pay them £850 .
I declined.
The official dealer list price for the Jaguar crank is £232 + VAT (if you can get hold of one).

Precision engineering carried out to the main bearing caps to take the tabbed bearings
This was carried out using a state of the art bio-mechanically controlled............. Dremel machine
