Towbar Security Plate

I've tried trawling through all the posts but can't find the answer I'm looking for.

I have a disco 3 with detachable towbar and I'm about to do a lot of towing with it. Where can you get the bolt on plates hat stop them falling out should the worst happen? Is it a long term fix? I've seen them mentioned here and Facebook but can't find them now I want one!

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Mike

I think you mean one of these......

A chap on here called geosdad made them for a while, but couldn't continue to produce at reasonable cost, haven't heard from him in a long while, but he did leave a better drawing than mine in his gallery Laughing Just a note though, this is not an approved addition to the detachable towbar. LR now recommend that if you tow regularly, a multi height fixed towbar may be more appropriate. ( if you asked a LR dealer, they may check the receptacle and your towbar, and if certain parameters are not met, might fit you a fixed towbar / replace a worn receptacle cross member if necessary FOC I believe).....I fitted my plate, to try it out, and I must admit,it fitted well, and I can't see the tow bar possibly falling out, if one of these were fitted......Better with this, than without, if staying with a detachable towbar, in my view.Thumbs Up

Anyone filling one of these should use at least one eyebolt to provide a replacement fixing point for the breakaway cable. VOSA (or whatever they are called this month) are getting anal and issuing prohibition notices if you don't use one.

If there is no suitably sized hole or loop in or on the towbar, the cable should be passed around the neck of the towball beneath the coupling head and then clipped back to itself.

These fixing loops have been a requirement for about a decade now, so only on older vehicles should it bee looped around towball. Lots os stuff in Caravan Club about people getting prohibition notices because not using hole/loop.
