1. the P/N sensor seems to work (i can feel the gear lever nudge when i press the brake) and and
2. the ECM seems to be ok (engine runs fine and i have 5v reference voltages on the couple of sensors that i checked.
3. Pin 2 doesn't go to ground on crank (if indeed pin2 is the green wire)

If i put my hand on the gear lever and press the brake pedal i can feel the lock/inhibitor switch operate.

ok maybe an IID would be of help
I was thinking a corroded pin on the ecu plug maybe?
The transfer box module pins next to it have been known to corrode.
Yeah brake switch isn't the issue

To answer this, you need to look at the manual transmission wiring diagrams.
looking on page 90 of some diagrams
The left coil pin still goes to the ecm
The right coil pin is different. Rather than being colour GO in an auto
its WR on a manual and heads to the CJB pin 30.
GOES TO that fuse 60 and IS +12V WHEN KEY TO CRANK POSITION
