fuel temp sensor; limp mode |
|
Hi,
My Disco went into limp mode today - could relate to fuel temp sensor/leakoff pipes but how best to proceed? Sorry for all the question marks!
I was up in the alps yesterday/today where it was -10 overnight. Car was a PITA to start this morning and on the way home it went into limp mode and reading the code it is P0181-00 (6C) Fuel temperature sensor.
I was already thinking it needs new glow plugs because it's hard to start when it's very cold, and it's on the immediate fix list. However, does it also probably need a new fuel temperature sensor such as this?:
https://www.famousfour.co.uk/new_parts/ff_part?part=12904
Could it be that this is my underlying issue and maybe the glow plugs aren't done for? Or could it be that the fuel temp sensor is possibly fine and my glow plugs are knackered? Or both?
What is most sensible plan of attack for addressing this? Would you suggest sensor first then glow plugs if starting still an issue? That's certainly my preference!!! Do these sensors generally go bad? Is there an alternative to buying this full assembly at £120?
Thanks,
Andy

The sensor cannot be purchased as a separate part from the fuel leak off pipes, but if you have a known good sensor, they can be swapped without replacing the pipework My D3 Build Thread

where the pipes connect to the injectors are some silver spring clips.
These are very easy to loose if you are not careful
Best to buy some spares before you start.
Other than that it is ok.
