Awesome work Thumbs Up

Can I ask, what did you do concerning the air conditioning gas? Did you recover it?

My local kwik fit emptied it. It was the first task. They did it for free!

And the front of the chassis is stripped apart from the removable front diff support beam and misc. wiring and air lines:

Some bits are looking a little tired/Donald ducked:

Started a spreadsheet for all the parts needed. Errr starts to add up quite a bit once you start with the 'might as well' thought process. Bear in mind that the car drove fine, only seemed to need a rear prop (worn rubber middle bearing) and rear disks. I also didn't loose suspension height even if left for 6 weeks.

So started to split the parts list out into what MUST be bought to rebuild it. What would be a nightmare to get back to, etc.

So with that in mind I have been making sure the air suspension struts come off in one piece. They look rough, but work and can be replaced with the body on. However the top nuts were heavily rusted and I had to resort to nut extractors to get the rears off:

Hopefully the budget will stretch to new struts, but if not the old ones will do for the next couple of years.

I'm mighty impressed by what you have achieved so far. I love this sort of project, but don't have your courage and energy. Well done.
Please keep the photos coming.

So been distracted by work and a holiday to the lake district. Now back on the Disco 3 overhaul.

Had a bit of a mare with the hand brake cables. Now need new ones..... Took off all the rear suspension. Then out with the rear diff:

Heavy! No wonder the car has its own gravitational field.

Then had to taken the wiring. I have taken 100's of pictures of the locations of the clips that secure each harness, for example:

Not a very exciting picture, but I need a record to allow me to put the thing back together.

The same with the air suspension lines:

As you can see from the tie wraps, some one has been at this before. Not convinced by the wiring and cable runs especially at the passenger side rear.

At his point I thought nearly done..... Well apart from the numerous clips and other items. I took pictures of each with a label, then bagged then with the same label. Now have a bin bag full of small plastic bags each with a clip/nut inside.

The chassis is best described as having a total paint system failure at the rear. Not sure what the car has been used for in the past. Must have involved salt?

Spent a while pressure washing the chassis. Had to resort to safety glasses due to the rust particles being blasted back at me.

Turned it over a few times and properly washed it off. A Lot of surface rust was liberated onto my drive.

Discovered the chassis is not too heavy at the front, but bloody heavy at the rear. Gave it a damn good hammering looking for anything soft. Only found one area area where the rear 1/2 shaft pass through the chassis on one side. There was trapped mud in the chassis in that area.

The started washing out the inside, initially with the pressure washer nozzle poked into holes. Not that much mud or dirt. Then made up a little 360 degree nozzle thing for the end of the hose pipe using plumbing fittings:

Got quite a bit out, but the pressure is too low. Looking for an adpator for my pressure washer next.

Yeah the half shaft orifices are a weak spot and are regularly missed even by testers, so well spotted. Thumbs Up
Are you going to galvanise it? You have gone this far and it would make sense, and add value too if budget allows.

Top work fella, (but please, no more holidays) Laughing

Best adaptor would be the one for cleaning drains - it pushes itself along inside the chassis with jets of water.
 Must stop buying shiny toys....
