Fixing dodgy door locks

Hey folks,

My new D3 has a dodgy rear passenger door lock. I am planning to replace it using the guidance in the wiki but has a slight issue. It’s gone from temperamental to not working so can’t open the door.

Any suggestions on getting the door open?

Thanks

The trick to these is to do them before they fail totally.

If you do a search this has been covered recently, you can get the door card off but getting the door open can be a pain.

A fully charged battery accompanied by a good thump has been known to work depending on what has failed (usually the lock motor needs cleaning or replacing), if you should get it open do not close it otherwise you will have a big problem Thumbs Up
 It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

Thanks for the tips. I only bought the vehicle 2 days ago so hoping the lock will decide to work once the new mechanism arrives.

@M3DPO is that don’t close or don’t lock?

Dont close it, you will be very lucky to get the door open once i doubt if you will get a second chance.

I would order a new catch then have play with the faulty one

Not sure I understood correctly what/where exactly is the problem with your lock. Is the door LOCK not working (as it remains always UNLOCKED or LOCKED) or does not OPEN or CLOSE using the handles?

My rear door LOCK is not working for ages, since I do not use it. (it does not LOCK or UNLOCK using the remote - open and close manually only) Sometimes it does not NOT UNLOCK even using the interior pulling lever.

I just leave it like that. To open it, from inside, sometime you need to pull the locking trigger at the same time as the opening lever. At least that is how it works on my door.

The door locks tend to fail in the deadlock position so that you cant unlock it and get the door open from inside or out.
Normally it starts playing up and is intermitant before it totally fails, if yours is playing up i would replace it before it totally fails.

Fortunately the offending lock decided to open and lock now replaced.

When the wiki article describes reconnecting the cable to the lock as fiddly, it’s the understatement of the century!
