I use a electronic device… more expensive yes, but if used both off–road AND on–road i like the choice…on motorways at higher speeds i still have the choice to lower it permanently if i prefer, to save fuel and better handling…. Above 60 mls/h the high position (with rods or electronically) is simply to high… not directly unsafe, but simply more stability when lower, let alone when put in the low position at even higher speeds
And handy to load an unload my old mum (@82) occasionally 😉
On muddy back roads and off-road, on washboard roads etc. the the high position is a no brainer..
I have a Matzker system…rather simple, permanently low, normal and high at any speed..
It was fitted when i bought the D3…. If it wasn’t fitted, i would have bought the Xlifter now…
Is it worth the extra money? Yes… if is stops working /breaks down (the Matzker) i will buy the X-lifter, within a week , worth every penny IMHO..Best regards
Harold

I use LLAMs variable height adjuster - much better than Rods etc.
