2.7 TdV6 Engine out with Body on.

Hi everyone, newby to the D3 here.

So i bought a project, as you do. 2007 D3 with a seized engine. At first i was prepared to hire a garage with a 2 post lift to do the engine change.

Then i thought, how hard can this be, so recording the whole process in HD, i took to removing the engine with the body on, and well it wasnt that hard at all. all you need is a good set of tools and a lot of long extension bars.

Engine now out, with a 2nd hand engine from a Jaguar S-Type waiting to go in, im pretty pleased.

So the D3 cost me £2750 and the Jag cost me £1200. Ill be spending a bit on Belts and Oil pump. But all in all a cheap D3.

Anyone else done this?

I looked a Cat D Disco 3 once, with the idea of repairing it. The guy was doing an engine swap on another D3, without taking the body off. He said it was straight forward. He may have taken radiator top panel off, I can't remember.

I found it no more difficult than any other car. The top two bell housing bolts are straight forward. The o/'s one I used a rachet spanner and the n/'s one I used 3 extension bars on top of gearbox, plenty of room.

OK it's probably quicker taking body off but it's not too hard with body on.

So how do you do it then, in brief?

Remove radiators ?

Tie engine to hoist?
Pull engine forwards and out?

Bonnet off ?
Slam panel off ?

Thanks guys, I do have axle stands under it as well, i wasn't that brave. My drive way has seen a lot of action over the years, engine changes, auto to manual conversions.

I will get some more pictures on soon. just need to prep this Jag engine ready to get it in. I bought the D3 with a time frame of 1 month to get the engine change done.

Id 100% recommend anyone give this a go.

I'm strangely enjoying it.
