Upper rear tailgate will not open |
|
I'm getting all the right noises from the release "handle" but the upper rear tailgate will not open!!
Is there a sequence of things i can do ?? or is it a dealer "fix"... out of warranty so needs to be sensible/practical??
has this happened to anybody else?? i'm lovin it....

Have you tried a search of the site - its a common problem.
It difficult from an iPaq to look right now but if your still stuck when I get home I cen find the links.
Try a search like "+tail +gate +fault" - without the quotes.

I don't want to be all doom & gloom but unless you have tiny hands, unlike me, it's impossible to sort. I ended up making a real muck of the trim & still having to go to the stealers. £198 it cost to sort for a new catch Richard

Mine went a while back.
Didn't make any motorised sounds though.
Dealer had to 'break in' from the inside.
All was sorted with no damage. I was a normal heterosexual chap, but in these new woke awakenings I now identify as a Wardrobe.

I did mine last week - you can get the carpet panel off enough to get your hand down to release it - PM with your phone number it is far easier if somebody talks you through it
It cost me £22 rather than the £300+vat I was quoted

this was very help full, however, I am sure a chat with somebody who has been through this will help.
Cheers

a BIG Thanks for all your help on this issue.... i fixed it this morning with a new cable latch assembly (£22.00)
getting the lower rear trim off was a challange and i found that tyre levers (bicycle) did the job better then the kitchen knives... if you start at the curvy bend and work left to right whilst inside the vehicle it pops off with no damage..my other tip is to remove completly the sticky grey foam as this sticks to the back of your hand when trying to get to the actuator.
Use a long thin screwdriver to prise the plastic lid off it clips over the cable end and just pops off then get a small child ( my son filled this role) he was able to get his hand in a grab the cable.. i could get it with long nose pliers... hey presto it poppedopen!!! once top door is open the rest is easy!!
tghanks again[/i] i'm lovin it....

Sometimes it works with the emergency release: Push the lock and unlock button on the dash for about 5 seconds till you here the rear door unlocking. get somebody else outside and pull the reardoor open when it unlocks. It is a 2 man job. Roel

In my case the cable had snapped at the point where it connects to the actuator... the "L" shaped dohdah on the end had broken off!!,... i understand this to be a common fault!... the only answer here was to take it apart i'm afraid i'm lovin it....

I had a double fault. The microswitch in the handle stopt working and a position sensor in the catch mechanism didn't work properly. Roel

Tailgate broke over christmas with haybales in the boot (great) exactly the same as Twizzle's as it turned out, L shaped metal piece at end of cable had sheared off.
Saved over £200 by using Jdea's fix list so good on ya mate. Agree with Twizzle cycle spanners are best to prise carpeted trim panel off you just need to remember more force is required than you think and the rest is all patience. So thank you both members for all the tips.
Total cost £28 for new catch, cable part and new foam membrane which you have to destroy to get to parts.Parts man said the new catch has been modifyed so hopefully this will not happen again. TONGA GREEN TDV6 S MANUAL

Oh Dear, I'm reading all this with trepidation. I even opened the Tailgate Repair document. My tailgate has just given up and I have been quoted €225 to repair it. Do you think that I can do this myself? Give you a clue: a) I'm a woman (which normally should provoke a wholehearted 'YES YOU CAN!', and b) What if I give up halfway through? Will a decent mechanic be able to fix the problem?
Thanks for your replies.

You need to press and hold both the lock and unlock buttons on the dash for 15 seconds 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021
