Tightening lower front arms |
|
I'am about to replace my lower front arms. On Youtube I saw a guy replacing his lower front arms. Before tightening the bolts of the arms to 275nm he first brought the low hanging wheel back up (with a jack) to "normal" riding heigh of 466mm between center bolt and fender. I wonder if that is necessary. I thought that the arm is moving freely.

Yes it is necessary if you want to do the job properly, the rubber bushes twist backwards and forwards in use, if you lock them up with the wheels "down" they can only twist in one direction and beyond the designed limit, this will lead to excessive torque on the bushes leading to a poor ride and premature failure. It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.
