Considering buying a 2010 Discovery 4, am I mad?

Hello people

Had a couple of Discoveries over the years, a 2 & a 3 of which the LR2 was a LEMON but the 3 was superb. Been away from the brand for a number of years but have just put a refundable deposit on a a LR4 HSE. It turns out that the car I have put a deposit on was owned by a local business very close to me and having had a word they disposed of it because of air suspension problems. It has since had a second owner for about 1 year. My question(s) to you chaps is should I run for the hills or are there ways of checking what work has previously been done under warranty and is there things I should be looking out for. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Interesting to hear your 2 was a lemon, mine was the most reliable LR, and indeed car I have had, 5 years and 90K, just goes to show, I am in a similar position, was looking to replace my TD6 FFRR and came across a nice D3 and D4, although having been away from Discos for a few years am unsure of pitfalls etc...

Anyway my tuppence worth on your situation, cant see why you would get rid of a 2? year old car for suspension problems that are covered under warranty unless you are not a Land Rover Experience nutter who knows that they will go wrong and covers it by warranty or cash Very Happy

You obviously liked the car for a reason and I think if we stopped buying Land Rovers based on air suspension problems, not many would get sold!!

Check with LR to see what has been replaced and get a good warranty

Cheers

Rosco

Get the details and talk to Nick (aca the large one on here) he is parts manager at LR Yeoville and may well be able to help out with what has been done. As others have said if it is under warranty why worry, also not heard of issues with D4 air suspension. Is it from a main dealer, if so talk to them about what you have found out and your concerns see what they have to say.

Thanks for your replies. I guess the temptation to get back behind the wheel of a decent 4x4 is just too strong to be ignored.
Having looked around for ages no other brand comes close to causing a stirring in the old loins department, so it looks like I'm going to throw caution to the wind and go for it. The Wife thinks I am having a mid life crisis, I wonder which of the two will give me the most enjoyment in the coming months Laughing

A D4 is not a mid life crisis.....I bought a Caterham Whistle

be interested to see how this thread goes as I too am going to be in the market for a D4...probably XS spec as it has the stuff I want and the HSE goodies I like, but can live without...I am a year or so away from buying but am keen to learn more of the D4....my D3 was just about as bomb proof as a car can be so D4 should be the same ?
D4 HSE....Probably, but not quite decided yet.

Went ahead and purchased a 2010 D4 HSE

Had the car for about 6 weeks and overall happy with the purchase. Slight problem within the first week which resulted in LR having the car for 2 days to fix faults which really should have been picked up by LR in their pre delivery inspection, since then all has been well, fingers crossed!

The D4 has been a revelation to drive, very comfortable and is a real head turner in Santorini Black. We do have a slightly irritating sqeawk from some where inside the cabin but have so far been unable to track it down, we will get there in the end.

The down side for me is that I managed to sever tendons in my right foot so have been unable to drive
the beast and have at least another 6 weeks before I can get back behind the wheel Sad

I bought a 59 plate D4 and apart from a gearbox linkage fault which was fixed under warranty it has been perfect. I love it. I bought it from land rover and it had just 15000 miles on it. Bought it at three years old so got the land rover extended warranty. I have now continued that at 70 per month just in case.

The only thing i will change it for is an 8 speed box disco 4.
