Discovery 3 engine numbers
Disco 3 engine numbers.
Hi I am installing a second hand engine in my 06 disco 3 but there are a few differences ie:- fuel pump , belt and belt cover power steering pump.
Could anybody tell me what year these changes were made and if its possible to get the year off the engine number.Mike

they changed from euro 3 emissions to euro 4 in 2007Andrew

Basic engine is the same…
Ancillary’s differ though…. So you can use each basic engine as long as you use the correct ancillary’s for your MY year…
As far as i know is MY2007 EU4 at LR BUT a MY2007 can be buildt in 2006!
Since MY is model year, but not equal to building year…
You can also use a JAG S type engine, and important, a JAG EU4 engine uses LR EU3 fuelpump and rails…
The ladderframe and sump, and pas pump and starter and ancillary belt parts need to be transfered from your old engine…. Easy though and since i recommend to put a new oil pump on the replacement engine straigt away, you need to be there anyway…

Just one question. What do you mean by ladderframe.

The TDV6 engine design (PSA/Ford) is widely used in different brands & motors..
(some will fit in a LR, NOT all)
JAG engine's will fit... but a difference is the ladder frame on the underside... LR's are designed to do the rough work, steep hills etc... (JAG not) therefore the sump/engine needs to be capable of delivering oil in all circumstances.. the ladderframe is the alloy frame between cranckcase and (extra deep) metal sump
this is very easy to transplant though , just a handfull of allen bolts and gasket (again, if you replace the oilpump anyway, the easyer it is)Best regards

Many thanks for your info Harold. Th s/H engine I have appears to be from a Euro 4 disco. I have fitted all my ancillaries from my Euro 3 and now removing the sump, ladder rail (just for cleaning ) and the oil pump.
It was mainly the fuel pump that was the biggest difference. My original has a small fuel rail at the pump and the pressure sensor at the pump. But the Euro 4 has no small fuel rail at the pump and the pressure switch is on the front of the left hand rail

i read nothing regarding that ?
does not metter if the newer strengtend type is allready fitted, they seem to wear quick more often than not... and it is easy to change now..Best regards

If the motor is from a Disco then the sump doesn't need changing and swapping the oil pump is pointless unless fitting a new upgraded version.

I would also check the condition of the bearings while you have the engine apart, i think you may find they are badly worn even on a good engine.Andrew

Sorry, that is absolute …. Imho
These oilpumps have rather low pressure from new, let alone after 100k mls, (quite a few engines die after 100k seems a patern ) new original FoMoCo are not extreme expensive and another engine is though…
But that is how forums work, every opinion has his counter opinion, for the owner/reader to decide who to believe..
+1 on the mainbearings… they wear also rather quick (due to that same oil pressure)

i rerebuild my TDV6 that lasted 52.000km after one head gasked got screwed up.
My King bearing looked exactly like your factory ones, eexept that mines wheren yellow.
