So it looks as though I'm going to go down the road of galvanising.

As Uncle Ray pointed out, this increases the overall cost significantly but I will have a wheel protector that will probably outlast the car!

I have some light surface rust & the original paint to remove before i get it dipped.

Any suggestion on the paint removal? Nitromors maybe? Burn it off & use a scrapper?

Get some rubber push strip edging on Ebay (or other source) and stops it marking any of the inner alloy when it bumps it...

Nice job Hardware & a cunning way to upcycle those plastic choccy tubs Smile

A metre length of 15mm pipe lagging around the circumference might do the job too. I've gone with some of this stuff from the online book COMPANY.

Daft question for those with a Adblue protector. what is the order of assembly?

Starting from the bottom up, Is it
1. Plastic protector
2. Nylon lugs
3. Wheel (face down)
4. Protector plate
5. O ring
6. Retaining pin

or do the o rings sit under the plate next to the wheel to hold the lug in place whilst locating the plate in position?

Some of that door protector stuff fitted a treat. Now I just got to summon the enthusiasm to drop the spare & fit it!

Maybe a point in this thread to ask if anyone else uses a raw jack so they don't need to lift the rear seats to lower the spare?

This...

Thread is here if anyone is interested? They aren't cheap but if you have a full boot especialy with dog cage or drawer in then they are superb...

Cheers Oxford-boy. I'll certainly look at this. As you say removing all the mats, load carriers and junk is a pita.

Here's my final picture. We'll happy with the results. Hopefully I won't have to see it again in a while.

I've been looking at the Raw Jack for a while but struggling to justify the £160 for something that I may never use, also not sure how much alteration I'd need to make to the tailgate guard in order to fit this... do you have a photo with your dog cage in place ?

I don't have a dog cage (if it is my post you are wishing a response to?) but rather a translok drawer.

The access to the raw jack is there, just. The raw jack bolt is right at the rearmost point of the two rearmost seats lowered. There is a gap in the carpet between the two seats when folded flat, right at the rear adjoining the tailgate. If you can see that gap and get a finger down it then the raw jack will work...
