I only read the spacer bit after I came back to the PC later and the wife had gone out in the D3, if you need a better pic, I can try to get one tomorrow.

If you look at the official instructions they show the plug opening to the right as well:

http://www.landrovertechinfo.com/extfree2v...ocCode=514

But not the spacer. I am sure there was a separate spacer now I think back, and there was also a reason why the plug had to go that way round, I remember at the time it was really confusing and I spent some time working out what went where, I am sure it would not go in the other way round but I could be wrong.

Will have another look tomorrow as I really want to know now!

Rob,

Many thanks for your offer. I've only just seen the thread. Of course, a spacer is the answer! I've not got time to go and look at the moment (got to go to work!), but how thick does the spacer need to be, and are the supplied screws long enough with the spacer?

Thanks again to all of you.

Nigel.

Ok folks I have taken pics of my LR installed 13 pin - there is a thick spacer/plinth the actual socket screws on to . As I have yet to master posting pics to threads anyone wanting the pics pm me an off forum mail address and I will send.

Rob - I have your mail address so will forward directly to you.

Thumbs Up

simoniz, you just need to go to "Gallery" at the top under DISCO3.CO.UK and then "upload photos", once they are in your gallery you can put them in posts. See:

http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic479.html

For more on inserting pictures.

Tallpaul,

Looking at your photographs, the socket is mounted with the flap opening in the oposite direction to mine (and the instructions). I don't think my "earlier" car would allow that owing to the positioning of the captive nuts. I called in at my dealer earlier today and have ordered a spacer, although they said that they weren't aware of the problem, but in fairness had not fitted many 13-pin sockets (yet). I like a challenge.

Yep, and I remember that the three nuts were spaced at uneven intervals, so I am pretty sure it had to go on that way. I am more of a think about it 3 times fit it once guy, so I didn't just throw it in there was a reason!

If you really get stuck I can just unscrew mine at the weekend and take a peek, but I am not sure how much cable is spare to allow me to pull the socket forward.

I am certain I would have fitted mine matching the instructions had I been able to! I know where the paper copy is in the garage (that came with the loom) after looking for something else last night, so I will check they are the same as the currently online ones just in case they changed something.

13pin is the way forward, from what I read, and you can always use a 7pin adapter loom if you have to!

Tallpaul,

Thanks for the offer, but don't go dismantling yours. I should have the spacer tomorrow so will get mine sorted. I've got an adapter which is how I discovered the problem. Rather than thinking about the spacer I "adapted" (cut off half the bit on the adapter to make it fit) the adapter. However, when I thought about it, I didn't want to be doing that to our new 'van when it arrives.

Nigel.

Thanks to everyone for their comments. The answer is the spacer. I now have one and will fit it over the weekend. Looks just the ticket and I am sure it will solve the problem.

Spacer purchased and fitted. Obviously not as easy as if done when fitting originally, the socket wires are quite tight. Fitting the spacer does have the conseqeunce of needing to rotate the plug 180 degrees so instead of opening to the right its opens to the left. (I seem to remember that when having a suit measured in the old days men were asked if they dressed to the left or the right, well we now have the answer Whistle !!)
Many thanks, with support from this forum, problem solved. Can't understand how with your spacer fitted you are still opening to the right Simon, the spacer gave me no alternaative but to go to the left.

Rob

I recall that I'm not the only one that opens to the right - there have been other threads on 13 pin electrics before.

Glad your all sorted .
