United Kingdom 2010 Discovery 4 3.0 TDV6 HSE Auto Santorini BlackDiscovery 4
2 weeks - 800 miles

First thoughts, 800 miles – 2 weeks

This is my 1st Discovery so I’m afraid I can’t make comparisons to any previous versions.

Reliability- Spot on so far. Delivered on March 1st, my car hasn’t had the recall work done yet but I still can’t fault it. Everything works exactly as it should and it has started first push of the button every time.

MPG- I’m getting around 29mpg both trip computer indicated and also roughly on actual fuel used. My commute is 50% motorway sitting at just over 70mph on the cruise control and the rest is national speed limit with a small bit of urban.

Cruise Control- Very accurate, maintains speed up hill which I know others have mentioned as an issue.

Brakes- The brakes are exceptional, this lump of metal stops seriously quickly. As good as my AMG Merc composite brakes.

Electronic Parking Brake- Spot on, no issues works well.

Performance- Again, very good. Foot to the floor she feels quick off the mark.

The ride feels good even on the 20” alloys but I can’t really compare with anything previous.

Key Fob- What a big heavy lump! Does it need to be that heavy?

Keyless Entry- Great gimmick, especially when I’m carrying the 10 month old. Push button locking also very good.

The premium leather seats are gorgeous. The memory settings work well and store all the settings including, steering wheel and lumbar support. Overall the seats are supremely comfortable.

High Beam Assist- Not perfect but still very good. Reacts just about the same time you would with the occasional rare lapse. The Xenon lights are very very good.

SatNav/ Radio- Very intuitive, works well. DAB radio very good. Harmon Kardon Dolby 7 sounds fantastic. Bluetooth phone works for both me and the wife with no issues. Having said that, when I have called the wife when she has been out and about in it, there is a fair bit of background ‘wind’ noise to the other caller when driving on the motorway.

Rear Seat DVD system- Very good, headphones and screens excellent.

Auto Dip Wing mirrors are useful, alas they dip too far and you can’t select anything in between in terms of dip angle. Should stop me dinging the alloys however. The rear view camera is very good and the yellow tram-lines are very accurate in terms of wheel alignment.

Touch wood, so far she is a delight to own and drive. Thumbs Up

Thumbs Up

Where did you get yours from? Have you been told it needs to go back for recall work?

I am getting one from Hunters Southampton sometime over the next 8 days.

Got mine from Westover Christchurch. Asked if the recall work had been done but the sales guy knew nothing about the recall. He consulted with Service who said they hadn't done any yet and would be recalling the car in about a month.

Reading the handbook now re the dipping! Embarassed

Cheers for the responses.

What have you done with the old wheels? I am looking for a set of 19" d4 wheels.

Hi, It came with 10 spoke 20" wheels and tyres. I've taken the Pirellis off and will use them when the existing tyres wear down. I've fitted Vredestein Wintrac 4's to the supplied wheels with the intention of running on them Nov-Mar each winter. Got stuffed badly with the weather this winter so want some options for next year.

Sorry, no 19" wheels spare.

Cheers

I would echo your first impressions virtually word for word, apart from the reliability, after driving mine for over 8000 miles now.

Seems the amount of reversing mirror dip can be adjusted.

Make sure the feature is enabled in the On Screen Menu.

Start engine and Engage reverse

Adjust mirrors to where you would like them to be when dipped

They should return to this position next time reverse is selected.

I'm off to try it now!!

You also need to store the setting once you have adjusted the mirrors, and before you shift out of reverse.
