Hi,
I am the same just picked mine the other day, the key will only come out if you release the pin on the tow bar, try pushing it in you should then be able to turn the knob and remove the key.
As for the location I have just wrapped it up in a towel and put it in the rear left hand cubby, just watch out for the cables in the bottom. Don't forget to put the red cover cap on to stop any mud getting up inside the unit.

The tow bar is probably the best place to keep the key... At least you won't lose it!
You can buy a polystyrene moulded block for the tow bar to fit in the left hand cubby, but costly for what it is. As you slide down the banister of life

Did you order the removable tow bar as a factory fit option If so you should have the stowage molding inside the n/s stowage compartment, mine came with the tow hook already stowed in there. When I picked up the car I asked the dealer where was the tow hook, he showed me where it was and said the stowage section comes with the factory fit.

It was ordered after I ordered the car, but i will ask the dealer because he told me I would get a 3 year year guarantee on it if fitted before delivery ... which it was !

Did they try and charge you for it or did you manage to get it as part of the deal?
They wanted £750 for mine as I asked for it after the deal was done, I turned round and told them it was a deal breaker, who in their right mind would order one without (mine was an ex-demo).
Sales manager had specced the car and left the tow bar off so got it chucked in.

Easy to mold one yourself with extended PU-foam. Just wrap the towhook in plastic and start. Excess hardened foam can be easily cut away.

To clear it up if it helps, if you order the car with the removable tow bar, if comes with the stowage thingy in the rear quarter wotsit of the car. It's not the easiest thing to fit in there, but it fits. It's a black molded thing. PAGODA

1. took off the detachable tow-ball - how do i take out the key ! ?
With the tow bar removed, hold it upside down, and gentle hit the small pin against something hard, the pin will retract and the large pin will pop out (with a bit of a clang) the key is them removable.
To reinsert the towbar into the socket, put the key in, turn and pull the green knob, the large pin will retract, trapping the key, and then the towbar can be inserted into the socket Never get mad - get even !!

I can't see why you want to take it off?
Not a desire I've ever had with a car!
