I received an email from a friend of mine asking some advise. If you wise men could help I would be greatful.
He asks
'Dom - I wonder if you could ask the guys on D3, especially those that
seriously offroad theirs and some of the guys
that go to the SE Meets, if they have been able to get underside
protection and if so the cost, also what other mods have they found
necessary/ beneficial. I'm not too keen to fit an expedition
roofrack but I wonder how they resolve the problem of securing the
spare inside the car for offroading. Do they find the size of the
beast a bit limiting? I have a set of 19" Goodyear MTRs - unused -
for the Sport and assume they will fit OK.'Loving the power of the TDV8!

take off the front plastic towing lug protector thingy - as that is the sacrificial lamb in any serious downhill slideorama HDC contolled descent..... 2007 TDV6 HSE 'Silver Lady'. With 'free' privacy glass LOL.
Taking the greenpi$$ is: Green taxing your citizens more & using some of the money to buy nukes.
Very hard to answer this, without knowing how far your friend is willing to push their vehicle it's tricky to say what to recommend. I presume we're talking about an RRS here? If so the choice of off-road accessories is even more limited than it is for the D3. There's the underbody guard for the D3 and some 3rd party ones starting to appear, but I don't know if LR do one for the RRS and I doubt anyone else will be doing any for the RRS for a while.
The LR winch kit is the same for D3 and RRS if he (she?) is tempted by one
The size of the D3 can be limiting occasionally but advantageous at other times.
MTRs will fit fine, very slightly oversized on the RRS but nothing to worry about. Use a ratchet strap or two and the tie down points to secure the spare in the back (assuming the RRS has tie down points?)
Best thing I can recommend it to make sure front and rear recovery points are exposed when going off-roading, take some decent shackles and straps or ropes and never go alone! The End
