Picking my disco 4 up next Saturday I had a look underneath today and it had a cover over the spare is this normal or will it be an after market addition, is there an image anywhere of the uncle ray cover so when I collect it I can check, if it’s not a secure one I can order one from uncle ray next week as he is away anyway

if you've got adblue the spare is face down and you get a plastic cover...its not secure..dont rely on it..get an uncle ray..adb lue version....if they nick the wheel they fook the winch as well..its expensive compared to your uncle ray

If its a plastic protector then its as good as a chocolate fireplace.
Uncle Ray's protector is metal:

So how do they fit on to make them more secure, I am going to go for one just interested, I thought they would just remove this and then cut the winch cable so it must lock on or something

Uncle Ray provides full fitting instructions, anyone can fit it - honestly - even Del
The protector denies access to the winch and cable making it impossible for the scrotes to cut the wire and run off with your wheelUncle Ray's spare wheel protector

It is easy to install the metal protector once you've got the knack.
You have to put the cable through the spare wheel centre and then through a small plate in the protector. When you've done that simply winch both up.
Don't underestimate the weight of the wheel when you lift it to get the protector underneath it though.
Not sure how the ad-blue version works but I guess it is similar.
The extra bit of effort required is easily justified though for the peace of mind it gives.Current : Discovery 4 HSE (2012 spec)
