EGR valves - what's the worst that could happen?

The engine warning light has now been on twice - first time needed to be diagnosed (diagnosed as fault on both egr valves) and turned off by the garage, second time it has turned itself off after a couple of runs. Engine seems to be running fine.

Question is do I need to get the egr valves replaced or are they just an annoyance that'll keep putting the engine warning light on? What's the worst that could happen if I leave them in and they fail? Could it do any damage to anything beyond the egr valves? Is the EGR valve cleaner that Wynns do worth a go??

Keen not to spend the £500 or so unless I really need to!

Thanks in advance.

I guess you have a car that cannot be easily modified with a blank but from my experience the worst thing that happened to me was a loss of power at an inopportune moment on the motorway!

At that moment by heart was producing more BHP than the car.

Wynns spray worked for me but to avoid future heart attacks I fitted a BAS blanking kit about a year later.

jb79,
Firstly some info, pre MY 07, euro3 spec engines could be blanked.
Later MY 07, euro 4 spec can not be blanked to date, requires replacement
of the EGR's, as LR made a change to the electronics to revent us from
blanking them Evil or Very Mad Let us know the model year to give some advice.
