Brothers car in for mot and failed on EPB, plus a few other misdemeanours..
Garage has looked at it advised he can’t do as diff has to be dropped to get to the motor.. is this correct??
Any local independents near Alcester, Warwickshire. And what sort of cost..?

I was quoted for a repair/new handbrake anything from £750 to £1200 depending upon if the old unit could be repaired, or it needed a new second had unit, if it needed hand brake cable's (likely) and new brake shoes, (guaranteed).
I am not sure of they took the diff out (I dont think its needed from reading a lot of threads on here) but when mine went in they took the exhaust off for sure. Discovery 4 3.0 HSE 2010 year. I like it a lot. Now with winch 😂

No need to drop either diff or exhaust. It's a fiddly job, but fully doable without either of those coming out.

Crazy how garages makes out these are so much more complicated than they are.
They just see a Land Rover and see ££££ signs.
None of that needs to be dropped. Defender 110 2.4 TDCi Utility Station Wagon.

If the EPB is jammed and the emergency release cable has been pulled then it can be unjammed with the module in place, may well need new shoes, discs and pads and adjusting properly to resolve everything.
The module can be removed with the diff in place…..and even if the diff did need to come out….what kind of garage can’t drop a diff with the vehicle on a ramp
