Failed Front Wheel Bearing?
I've had a bit of a noise coming from the front of the D3 for a while, and recently noticed it getting worse with a slight vibration when turning left. Turning right isn't a problen, no noise
Today when leaving a petrol station, there was loud clunking scraping noises when trying to turn left, and became very hard to turn the wheel
Stopped the car, dry steered from lock to lock, no noise, looked under the car, nothing standing out
Its no back to driving normal apart from the droning when turning left
Does this sound like failed wheel bearing symptoms? Does the NSF hub need replacing?
Thanks
Ade

I don't know about a guide, but they're easy enough to replace. You just need a decent size breaker bar to undo the centre hub nut.
First of all though, start by jacking up each front wheel in turn and check for play in the hub/bearing by grabbing the wheel top & bottom and rocking it - just to be sure it is that and you've got the right one.
Edit; I've just looked at the link to the D2 one above and, yes it's fairly similar.Clive

Will be doing this later when I get home from work
So being similar to the D2, does that mean no need to remove the whole hub assembly from the lower arms?
I assume the wheel bearings aren't sided and a front one will fit any side?
I'm fairly certain its a bearing though
What about torque values for the nuts, thinking more the drive shaft nut - I think my torque wrench goes up to 275Nm

welcome to the wheel bearing club
sounds like a bearing but the easiest way to check is to jack the wheel and see if it wobbles on the vertical.
costs about £110 I think for the hub and bearing assemblyDuncan

"So being similar to the D2, does that mean no need to remove the whole hub assembly from the lower arms? "
Correct, the bearing/hub unit unbolts from the back of the outer hub which remains in place, you just need to remove the caliper & disc first.
"I assume the wheel bearings aren't sided and a front one will fit any side? "
Also correct.
I'm not sure about the torque settings, I think the centre nut is somewhere around your torque wrenches max though, I just used the "fat bloke on a big breaker bar" method, It's not come undone since.Clive

350Nm I'll do it to the highest my torque mar goes plus a little bit more on the breaker, hopefully that will be OK
Nick, after I found out you were away I ordered one from my local LR stealer to make sure I got it in time for the weekend, cost me £135 though Thanks for the offer or trying to arrange it even whilst your away from work though

Hi All,
I could be wrong (again! ), but I think that the torque value has been reduced to 230Nm.

I changed one of my front wheel bearings recently.
Well, as mentioned you change the bearing/hub assembly.
I gathered the following information from various threads and replies to my questions by ever helpful forum members before I started.
Hub and Bearing assembly Part number LR014147
remove wheel
remove caliper and pads
remove disc
remove hub
refit new hub, disc, caliper pads, wheel
no special tools needed but will need:
32mm socket for the hub nut.
Torx bit for disc retaining screw
21mm 12 point socket for calliper brackets.
torque setting for the 4 bolts that hold the hub/bearing assembly, 85lb/ft
driveshaft nut torque has now changed to 230Nm
Wheelnuts - 140Nm
Brake disc to hub is 35Nm
Caliper to carrier is 35Nm
Caliper carrier to hub is 275NM
Nasher.Heaven doesn't want me, and hell is afraid I'll take over.
