On advice from this thread I've booked mine in for the gearbox software update on Monday 21st. Will give feedback. Interestingly I have not experienced the brake binding issue and my average mpgs are 27 lowest up to 34. All measured manually with every refill rather than relying on the over optimistic computer. Driving mainly for pleasure trips so never in a hurry. Lowest mpg with a roof box and loads of paraphernalia in the back, which is to be expected.

Having had our software updated about a week ago, the gearbox is improved, but still not 100%
Main problem is still occuring when hitting the throttle after braking. There seems to be such a lag, and then the car takes off like a scalded cat!
Last night on the way home, I tried pushing the brake with my left foot whilst on the power with my right foot, and the power just died.
There is obviously some way that the power is cut whenever the brake pedal is applied, and my car seems to take an eternity to tell itself that the brake is no longer being applied!
I wonder if there is any way this power cut when braking can be disabled?

I think that the brake will always overide the power, in any auto car, it just makes sense for it to do so.
I really don't know what the answer is ?
I think the main problem is that LR have obviously tried (maybe to hard) to compensate for the emmisions and made the car change into as high a gear as possible for any given road speed.
I stated in a previous post that my car is often in 5th or 6th gear at 20-25mph and if power is needed it would take any car 2-3 seconds to decide to change into the required 3rd or 4th gear !
But it still doesn't explain the hesitation from standstill ?
I experience it on a daily basis exiting my drive onto quite a busy road, there's a gap, go for it ........... nothing, start to move off slowly ........... traffic approaching quickly ............ still slowly moving ...........wham, off like a nutter !!!!! By this time the car approaching is left wondering why I took so long to move out ?

I have the same problem, slowing down to a roundabout, see a gap, delay, lurch forward, I find if I leave it in sport mode it seems a lot better, but then again I don't pay for the running costs of my d4 SSDD.

Does sand mode make a difference, like in D3s of old?

I find the only way to try and overcome the problem is to use the paddles, then I tell 'IT' what gear 'I' need to be in !
Yep, tried sand mode and yes that's about the best option but it does hang onto every gear with the revs rising towards the 4000 rev mark without changing up,.................... not good for the mpg !

Nooooooooooo! Got my trusty (or rusty) old D3 with half it's innards removed, bits bolted on and she's here to stay. Liking my alternative choice for main car way too much.

My MY12 D4 XS is in at the dealer today for the software update for the gearbox (mine is within the chassis number range mentioned elsewhere in this thread). I will report back ASAP.
Off topic - I've also asked them to look at the touch screen which is infuriatingly slow to react. Changing between audio modes for example seems to take forever and this morning I had completed a reversing manoeuvre before the rear camera view appeared on the screen !

If you had a remap would this gearbox software update wipe it out?

Quick update!
Had the gearbox remap for about 1200 miles now. When the update was done the car ran beautifully, but now after 1200 miles it's back to how it was before!
It must be something to do with the adaptive box, and I can only assume that because my wife drives the car more than me, that the box has adapted to her driving style!
In essence, I don't know whether the remap of the box gave the improvement initially, or whether it was just the fact that the box was reset when they did the update!
Anyway, fed up with the bloody car now, so probably getting rid!

Know how you feel, I too thought mine had improved after the update, but on using it again this week the hesitation when moving out of my drive first thing in the morning is horrendous, and I really don't think it has anything to do with your wife.
It nearly involves me in several accidents during my busy road trip to work due to oncoming traffic approaching at junctions, traffic light turnings etc !
I too am fed up of it and I'm seriously thinking of swapping it if nothing else can be done to sort it !!

When complaining to dealer and LR make sure you use the words: "safety issue" and "near miss" that should help get LR focused on the issue. “There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€
