My car is a 61 plate 8 speed, bought last Xmas and while it's certainly not the quickest slush box from standstill, on the move I find the changes are very smooth and match my pace well, when pressing on (which I don't do much of in this car) it's fine as well, so I'm a bit surprised at the problem so many posters seem to be having, or maybe (as this my first LR) I'm too easily pleased.

Took my 2012 HSE into the dealers on Friday re the "hesitant 8 speed gearbox off the starting line" and they said the problem was a faulty break peddle micro switch which was holding the brakes on slightly.
I had also said to them that it felt as if the brakes were sticking at slow speeds on occasions.
Drove to Suffolk and back over the weekend, 400 odd miles, and it does seem better exiting junctions although maybe it's imagination!
Whatever, the car is brilliant anyway you look at it, soooo quiet and smooth

Following up on my post 17th May and gearbox software upgrade download: Have covered approx 700 miles since and appears to have improved although not 100%. Now relying more on paddles when approaching junctions and roundabouts, just to be safe.

Interesting thread
my 2012 DISCO Falls betwen CA596988 to CA625890 (SDV6 255bhp)
I phoned my local LR dealer who stated that there is nothing on the system for mine and furthermore thay new nothing about either the problem or the software fix
Any advice guys please, or a contact name at another dealer who talks sense?

I had the same problem when I contacted my supplying dealer, girl on reception ......."computer says no !"
So I contacted a dealer who was actually nearer to me and they knew about the problem and had already had several 2012 owners contact them regarding the problem.
I would suggest contacting one who does know !

Thanks Peely
The dealer has been back to me this morning and says he knows about the brake light switch mod but not the software update and has asked me if I can get him the number of the Land Rover Bulletin that describes the software mod?

Guys
My D4 is only 2 months old and I noticed the odd gearbox stickyness, particularly on startup. I found these threads and my chassis no. was within the list for new software. Took it to the dealer who knew nothing about it and said there were no known faults, but they took it in to look at. They said it road tested fine and they found nothing wrong with it, but when I asked if they had made any changes, they said they had installed a gearbox software update.
Now the really bad part - the minor downshift fault is fixed but the box is now totally sh*t - it thinks its way through every down change. My strong advice is dont get this update unless you have real downshift problem - the update it much worse and the car will be going back again.

The new sotware would have set the adaptive setings. See if it improves. “There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

I have never had a problem with downshifts, in fact the gearbox performs well when on the move, shifts are smooth. The only problem I have is with setting off and when moving slower and need instant power, waaaaay too much time between applying throttle and moving ?

Can you explain in a little more detail ?

Most auto boxes learn your driving style and adapt the changes to suit. The upgrade would reset the changes to default, it needs to re-learn your driving style.
Then you can tell if it has helped or not. “There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€
