GS v XS With Military Discount

I'm considering purchasing a GS with the options listed below against a XS:

GS c/w:

Cruise Control, Power Mirrors, Privacy Glass, Xenons, Met Paint, Heated Seats, Bright Pack and Convenience Pack for £35700 OTR

XS for £38600 inc Xenons.

£3k difference between the 2 cars, i know i would be without Sat Nav and leather if I went for the GS, is there any other major item that the GS misses out on?

What would you guys do - I appreciate a steer from the experts, i currently drive a FL2 SD4 HSE.

Thanks

Andy

Fairly mediocre hifi in the GS tbh...along with the loss of leather and satnav I would pay the extra £3k ....also because you'll never get the same residual back from a GS even with those extras Thumbs Up

I know it is big money, even with the Forces' discount but the XS trim is a much better balance of trim than the GS. The more basic trim levels worked for the D3 with its more utilitarian interior but a D4 in basic spec feels like something is missing; in fact the GS spec is pretty grim for a premium car.

If you can then go for the XS, otherwise you may kick yourself once the newness wears off. With the discount (is it still 15%?) you will suffer less real depreciation than most, so enjoy it!

(I didn't use the Forces' discount in the end, so may be a little out of touch).

For me it would have to be the XS - satnav and leather are desirable

I am waiting for the D4 HSE to depreciate enough for my measly CPL salary to afford one! Laughing

XS for me.
Forces discount currently 13% for a Discovery.
Might be worth sitting tight for a while until details of the 2014MY are revealed.

Bribe and cheat your way to sgt and get the D4 whilst you are still young.

Welcome to Waddo and I am sure it will be a refreshing change to Digby. Shame you felt the need to turn down the stripe as I know these decisions are not easy.

Depends what you want out of the car to be honest. I don't find my GS "grim" at all. If i'd wanted loads of gizmos i'd have bought an S-Class Merc.

But I need 4x4 out in the sticks. That was my primary concern. I have DAB radio full size spare and the same engine, gearbox, Terrain Response, Diffs and performance as the higher spec. Just not the all the luxury "in cabin" bits. Did put bright pack and xenons on. Have always had xenons on my German cars and couldn't live without them tbh. But that's my only indulgence Thumbs Up

Do they perhaps have a specced up GS ready to go from a cancelled order?

No not at all - I would not be getting my military discounted car from Harwoods, the guys there were just giving a dealers perspective on my dilemma and they all said GS all the way.
