I made the same mistake today.
Loading 20 liters in my TDV6.
I didn't start the engine at all, got it towed home.
What I found out to empty the tank was to get to the diesel filter, loosen the tube (quick release connector).
Then I had to put my engine contact to II and the fuel drains out of the tube.
As putting the key to II activates the pump for about 30 secs, I had to repeat this for a whole time till the tank was empty.
It took an hour but it worked for me.

I just posted this because I couldn't find any help on this and somebody might find it useful if they do the same stupidity as I did.

SWMBO did it in her astra a few months ago, RAC wanted £225 to drain it......got a little hand pump for £3 and spent an hour draining it. Job done. now got 20litres of petrol for the lawn mower that'll probably last a life time (wouldn't recommend putting it in a petrol car after it's been in a diesel tank but the mower should cope.
BTW chaps if you have a petrol car and you put diesel in and start the engine you are screwed. So make sure you don't start it if you do miss-fuel.
Apparently diesel contains about 5% petrol anyway - the delivery tankers recover the vapour that is created when filling the fuel station tanks, then take back to the depot and dump in a slops tank, then this is mixed with the diesel tanks, resulting in 5% petrol in diesel. Also stops your diesel from freezing, apparently.

I tried it first to drain with a tube into the filling cap, but even after managing to insert the tube past the anti-theft valve, I couldn't reach the petrol.
I don't understand where the 2 meters got into, but definitively not to the bottom of the tank.
