Is this my 1st problem?

I had to drive the wifes' V40 Sport Lux today as it was going for a service. I even considered getting a trailer to take it to the Volvo dealer just so I could use the D3, but that idea was met with typical female sensibility and despair Crying or Very sad

Anyway, I took the D3 out for a 10 mile run this evening simply because I hadn't played today. Still less than 400 miles on the clock and I discovered something which I am simply questioning. I'm not the type to look for a problem so please tell me your thoughts.

Cruise Control - I normally get up to a certain speed and push the '+' button - no problems. Tonight, I wondered what it would be like to start slow and hold the '+' button down to get the speed up and then let-go. It works, but the car is 'hunting' as if I were constantly pressing and lifting the throttle whilst gaining speed. Should I be concerned?

BTW, the V40 is a great car. Full heated leather, cruise etc. All the toys in fact. I've always enjoyed its comfort and practicality....... until today. I sat low to the ground watching the ML's, X5's D3' and RR's go past me like bosses on the factory floor. They never batted an eyelid at me Crying or Very sad It's the first time I have felt 'lowly' in the V40 and I was yearning for the D3. Have I turned into a D3 snob already?? Laughing

that feeling is probably because the cruise control progressively increases the throttle - i doubt its a problem.

So is mine. Maybe a dodgy button or slip ring.

If you set your speed, (say 30mph) and let the cruise settle. If you dab the button once, it increases by 1mph. If you dab 10 times quickly, it is accumulative and will increase your speed to 40mph. Do you get the same symptom doing this? If not, I would suspect the button or connection.

Mine increases in speed with slight “surging” if you hold the button down. I’m not worried as obviously the cruse button was not designed as an accelerator.

I think it’s more pronounced if you do it the other way. Go to 40mph, and just hold the –button. The car will slow down slowly, and if you let go at about 35, it seems to hunt for a second before settling at the desired speed.

Also to note, that the car ( my TDV6 auto in this case .. ) is clever at staying the in power band, if for example you cancel at about 40 or 50, let it drift back to about 20, and hit resume. It doesn’t do what my previous (Vauxhalls) cars did, and just go for it, but it will get to about 2000 rpm and use the torque
..............Somewhere in-between my old D3 and what's to come next .........

Agree. It's the nicest (smartest) CC I've ever experienced.

Good - I had a Dodge rental car in the US a couple of years ago in which I had been cruising at 65mph - went through a toll and just jabbed resume - the car went completelt bl**din' mad - scared my missus something rotten! Steve N | 21MY Defender | 08MY Discovery 3 (history) | 06MY Discovery 3 (ancient history)

My old Disco 2 V8 was like that.

If you had been cruising at 85mph, and slowed to 50, then hit resume, it was like warp drive had been engaged! Even worse if you had left the gearbox in sport mode Wink
