Mileage on used D3's ???

For an 2005/6 model would 80-90K seem high miles or is it in its prime ?

I sold my 05 D3 with 97K on the clock last March and all seemed fine, as long as well maintained you should be OK - same as any complex car
Some of the Starship Commanders with interstella miles will be along in a minute........

I wouldn't say it's in its prime at six year old and 90k.

A car with 15k on at three year old and a poor service history with lots of short journeys is far worse than a six year old car with 90k and an excellent history.

Rule of thumb I use is over 12k a year is High Mileage but not necessarily out of the question to purchase. The D3 can handle the high mileages as character can confirm, gotta be on 400k by now.

Mine is only on 44k and suffers from time to time, probably worse than a regularly used D3.

High mileage is not a problem on a D3, as long as the engine has regular oil and filter changes, as long as this is done per schedule, they are easily capable of well over 300k, and as Mac mentioned, at least one member in here (Character) has over 400k

Mine is a 06MY, and has just clocked 129k, it is used evry day almost without exception, and acording to my mileage data, I average 123 miles a day, and thats over 365 days a year.

But then the Highways Agency D3/4's clock around 250k in 2-3 years

06 D3 now gone to family member and still going strong at 265k

previous vehicles:
04 D2 TD5 - (clocked 189k from new)
52 X-Trail 2.2 SVE
various euro boxes !

High mileage is very possible if looked after correctly. My 07 has only done 42.5k and I bought it 11 monhts ago with 26k on the clock to do 20k a year in. New job and company car means that it is being retired to toy status and I'll be lucky to do 300 miles a month in it Sad

cheers

I'm a 94k 07. The way I look at it is that to clock that kind of millage it's got to be motorway millage rather than anything that over stresses the car.

yep, mines an 06 and now done 137K - absolutly fine if you keep on top of the maintenance.

Its not the engine you need to worry about , its all the other bits and pieces - a well Serviced and "Maintained" car will do many more miles. check to see what invoices are available to view as the items on a service are a very small part of the overall ownership and evidence of how well its been looked after

its down to driving style/history. I swapped on old D3 at 78k in three years, but almost all of mine was motorway cruising (so over 40k out of a set of tyres was no problem). Nice steady running, nothing harsh or agresive, so made somebody a very nice car (hopefully)

for an 80-90K car, if i were to buy it i would want a 105k service done and the suspension bushes done also (if they havnt already been done), or £1000 knocked off the price - I would expect maintenance bills of around £1500 from a vehicle of 80K - 120K - budget for that and you could get a good buy. people still devalue cars that have done higher mileage but IMO they can be better value for money - just keep some money spare to do some immediate maintenance.

Dunc - that was one of the reasons the dealer gave when putting my p/x together. By chopping my old one at 78k miles, somebody could still have 12months motoring and the next service was still only the 90k service (using 12kmiles per annum as average), so not "too bad" in terms of servicing, wheresas the closer to 90k I would have got, the next owner would have been facing both the 90k and big 105k services during the early part of their ownership, and wouldnt want to pay so much for the car - there's some logic in there somewhere.

Cost of ownership models and all that - Whistle

Definitely worth a look when you consider the major differentiating factor between a £9k car and a £13k car is mileage.

I'm on the look out for one and will probably save the money and go for a leggy one. What's the worst that can happen Shocked
