New Rolex GMT Master II with iconic 'pepsi' bezel

Been looking at pre-owned one's of these but they are virtually as much as a new GMT for the best one's albeit the new one doesn't have the 'pepsi' bezel (half in red, half in blue).

Then I saw that the new release for 2014 included a blue/red bezel version as Rolex had eventually worked out how to create the, now, ceramic bezel in two colours to include red (they currently do a blue and black halved version) with laser sharp line between the two colours. A bezel in two seperate halves wouldn't meet the required engineering integrity required.

So having overcome that I decided now was the time to get in there and buy one before they all went.

Sourced the model number to a couple of well known retailers and awaited there call back to me saying I wanted to buy one Mr. Green

Oh dear. Somewhere in my excitement I had missed the fact it was only available in white-gold and/or platinum as the iconic 'pepsi' dial was deemed too worthy to go on the humble stainless steel Confused

I was quoted £22k and £25.6k for said watch with delivery due in September........ Shocked

Won't be having one of them then....... Rolling Eyes

'tis a lovely watch.

I had to cut back on watches last year. Thought I'd move over to Razors instead. Turns out they aren't cheap either!

One day I'll find a cheap hobby. Not soon though Laughing Wink Big Cry

I have a 'black bezel GMT II already but I just soooo want a 'pepsi' bezel version.

Have sourced a 2005 model but think need to move quick as prices are rising all the time and this new model will only focus more attention on them.......

There is a 'very well used' 1956 version (they were released in 1955) with the ultra rare reverse side painted plexiglass bezel for £25k on well known auction site. Looks like you'd chuck it and not even think to pass it to the charity shop to me Laughing

I have an 87 Master II with the Red/Black bezel but stopped wearing it after a chap said to me:

"You can't half get some good fakes these days eh?"

A friend of the family was trained and worked for many years at the Bexleyheath Rolex service centre (Rolex's own) before setting himself up as an independent.

He has access to all sorts and I had my wife's 30th present made up with swaps of bezels and faces - ended up with a lovely timepiece all officially Rolex for 50% of the new price Smile

I could always ask him if any of his clients have one they wish to part with - he always has a few collators and people that are trading between each other through him.

A few years back I was in a reputable up market used watch shop in Muscat Oman and really took a shine to a genuine stunning black oyster daytona with a red Sultan of Oman's coat of arms on the bezel for silly money.

Follishly I let someone who worked for me at the time in Dubai talk me out of it, as he said the locals have this theory why certain people were given these special edition watches Whistle , and why most of them ended up for sale Shocked

He told me that if I wore it anywhere in the Middle East a lot of people would automatically assume that i'd earned it for doing "special favours" Surprised Wink

Needless to say, I wish i'd just bought it now as i've just googled them and they appear to be very collectable and fetch a shed load money Big Cry Big Cry

Mmmmmm Rolex GMT.

Got an Explorer I myself, lovely timepiece.

Who cares if people think they are fake. You know its real and for me that's all that matters. Anyway people who know watches know watches. I've also got a Chopard and know one has heard of them. But like I said if you know watches you will have. Also it looks stunning. Well I think so.

Love my Breitling Chronomat Evolution, been called a fake a couple of times - had it since 2006 and has appreciated slightly - will never sell.
Only thing I dont like is having to send it away for a service / fixed, apart from the cost, have to wait up to 8 weeks

What do you guys do about servicing - my Submariner is now approaching 20 years old, and has never been serviced and never missed a beat, it is also worn daily, I was advised probably wrongly don't have the back taken off until you need too.

As it could do with a little polish I think it may be time to have it serviced.

Servicing a good watch is a nightmare.

I have a wonderful 1966 Omega 321 Seamaster (Which was the 21st Birthday present of my father) a watch which has not as much value as others these days but is of incredibly sentimental value.

Omega since December have not allowed any "Service Centres" to service or repair what they call "Cat 4" or Vintage watches anymore (Which prior to this was allowed) and now you have to send it off to the factory at up to 4x the cost and takes significantly longer.

Up to £1000 for an Omega service now, and I know several people who sent their watches for a service in December "To get ahead of the rush" and still haven't had them back.

Mine is every 3 years ISTR, and about £300
I knocked into a glass display case in a shop last year and dented the bezel - that cost a few quid as well Big Cry
Does come back very shiny though
I also polish out scratches on the steel with Auto Solv - very carefully and very lightly

I've also got 3 Christopher Ward watches - really lovely, one I bought myself, others presents from the Mrs - their servicing is about £75 - £145 depending on movement type, returned in 2 weeks
