Had a garage look at it today and
There saying it could be the oil pump in gearbox not letting go
He gave me
Breakdown on costs and ranges from minimum 850 to 2100 maximum plus vat from planet gears
Or another Land Rover only specialist in barking will do a recon box and torque convertor for 1800 which includes the vat so don’t know what to do Disco 3 gone but not forGotten

Forgive me for stating the obvious, but your first post describes the problem, T/C clutch solenoid. As I understand it, the T/C has friction rings (updraded have kevlar) which are part of the lock up system which effectively overides the fluid coupling system when instructed to do so, the system has a clutch to engage /disengage as appropriate which in your case may not be operating correctly possibly giving all the symptoms you describe. If I have misunderstood the operation of the transmission I trust someone will correct me.

If this was me I’d be taking it back to the people who did the torque converter.

I did talk to a bloke in Peterbough (planet gears) and he run off all the costs from new torque convertor and tranny refurbished which was 1450 but extras if faulty are new valve body 250 new megatronic u it 350 so 2100 if everything is faulty Disco 3 gone but not forGotten

Nope there blaming the gearbox and tbh the convertor was only 330 exchange so less than the fitting cost should of took it to a proper place in the first place
There is one place in barking who fits a recon box and torque convertor for 1800 includes the vat but planet gears checks every thing and only replaces what’s needed well
Apart from gearbox seals and clutches there renewed no matter what but could work out a lot more if it’s all knackered Disco 3 gone but not forGotten

Not sure if any help but you could try Martin at Alymer Motors in potters bar. They are very good and know Landrovers inside out. Or G+G automotive in Ware. Again LR specialists and are nice guys.
They may have a listen for you and see what they think James favourite hobby is writing in the third person.

I’m not sure if it’s anywhere near you, but Dartford transmissions. I’ve read a lot about these guys being seriously clued up on ZF transmissions and do a lot of work on D3 boxes.
Worth a shout if you’re anywhere near.

But would that also cause the noise in neutral and park and when de accelerating and while making a noise de accelerating the revs don’t drop
Or could it be a sticking solonoid do u think as I’m sticking open and sticking closed
Any thoughts before I spend 1800 on a box referb and torque referb again Disco 3 gone but not forGotten

James, What symptoms and noises did you have prior to replacing the T/C. Was your gearbox working correctly?were there any fault codes prior to replacement?

No fault codes before only had the car 4 days before having it changed as brought it like it and no I didn’t know as only started to judder and slip once warm but don’t remember any noises but I have noticed some fluid coming out of the bell housing not much but there is def a leak somewhere it seems to drive ok through the hears and the code has only
Come
On one in 1000 miles but it’s the noise and the revs sticking and the noise when de accelerating that concerns me as I do 3-4000 miles round France every year pulling a caravan and would hate it to go wrong
I did pull the caravan the other day as a test and the noise seemed louder when towing although towed it very well with no probs at all Disco 3 gone but not forGotten

Well garage has removed box and found the problems
1 the new torque convertor is no good so needs a new one
2 the gearbox has a lot of burnt clutch plates and some bushes have a bit of playin them
3 oil pump in box has a lot of play
Outcome new gearbox 1450
New torque convertor 250
With the vat 2040 lucky I can claim the vat back through my business
Should get back on Tuesday Disco 3 gone but not forGotten
