My 06 D3 needs new disks and pads all round and I was considering using a local Land Rover machanic to do the job. He is a very good Land Rover machanic but has never worked on a D3. It's a very "back street" setup, but he has a good reputation for the older D1 and D2 and those other farmers type Land Rovers..... 8)
So is it a standard job that doesn't need any special tools or should I really get it done by the Stealers?
Should I fit standard parts or these?:

no problem for a mechanic worth his salt. Front ones are really easy, did mine myself.
I brought some aftermarket front discs from DLS (britpart discs) and suffered from brake shake afterwards, so took them back off and brought genuine from LR Yeovil (TLO on here)
AlVolvo XC90 B5 Plus Dark
Gone - MY18 D5 HSE - Corris on 22's with Black Pack
Now gone - MY16 D4 SE Tech, Loire Blue, Almond Leather, Privacy, plus some other goodies.
Old - MY12 D4 SDV6 XS Auto - Ipanema Sand with Almond Leather - Plus other niceties, and D4.com sticker
Older - D3 TDV6 XS Auto - Lugano Teal with Almond Leather, 20" Stormers, Shiny Tailpipes, DVD/TV - and obligatory D3 sticker
Ancient - D3 TDV6 S - Tonga with Ebony, 20" Stormers, satnav & DVD
No special tools required and would be a doddle for any competent mechanic. Only thing to be aware of when changing the rear discs is that he will need to ensure the EPB is off and the fuse is removed to prevent the EPB from being inadvertently activated when the discs are removed. Now an ex-D3 owner after 7 happy years. Miss the car but not the big bills

steer clear of EBC imo - I managed to warp 3 consecutive sets on my last car (Focus RS) - all replaced FOC, but I still wouldn't use them again...quality is , and braking is NOT an area i'd be wanting to scrimp...Peter, are you drunk? No, I'm just exhaused cos I've been up all night drinking...
I would go with Genuine LR parts via TLO every time...job is not hard so long ay you have a decent jack & some stands.....you can find info on here if you do a search. Dont use the jack that comes with the D3 for workshop use. Its only fit for 'Emergency use only' ....justCheers Ian

FWIW, i have EBC discs on my car, and despite some 'enthusiastic' driving, I have never managed to warp them...
Discs tend to warp when the are hot and you sit with your foot on the brake pedal, causing localised cooling which warps them... All down to driving style IMO My D3 Build Thread

I had all 4 of my discs glowing hot (and experienced brake fade!) so I pulled over and gave them a chance to cool down. Rested it against a rock so it couldnt roll away as I couldnt put the handbrake on... Discs have all been fine, even to this day, and that happened over 2 years ago...

Please remember that there are other ways to warp discs; I needed a set all round on a previous car because a grease monkey air wrenched all the bolts to 220lb/ft and lied about back-torquing the bolts to spec. I never leave home without my torque wrench now; and always set the torque myself when I get home from having work done on the wheels.Dr. Ian Malcolm:
"Yeah, but your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn't stop to think if they should."
Transgenic tomato anyone?

Hi, I have changed my front and rear brake pads yesterday, the 'ding' warning is off, but there is still a amber lamp on the dashboard and display says check brake pads. Do I have to reset the code or is it because my mechanic did not fix the sensor correctly?

Should just disappear as long as a new sensor is fitted.

if the light has come on and the sensor activated then you will need a new sensor.
i keep mine disconnected... they are only on the Front LHS and Rear RHS anyway - I always check manually.Duncan

I have the sensor plugged in, I will take it out then and use manual eyeball. Do you leave it dangling? or cut it away? thanks!LR lives!
