Side Body mouldings (door protection) fitment
I have purchased a set of side body mouldings to fit on the doors for protection.
Can anyone provide me with advice on fitting these strips - any techniques of tips would help.
In addition, can anyone confirm the distance from the bottom of the strip (to be fittted) to the top of the black edge at the bottom of the door.

Make sure your door panels are really really clean.
Unless the Aussie Sun has already done it for you, use a hair dryer to warm each panel before applying each strip.
Mark your heights using small lengths of masking tape after accurately measuring. The distances from teh bottom of each door (at each end of the door) are printed in the instructions - which you can get off the land rover owners web site for free if you don't have them.Steve N | 21MY Defender | 08MY Discovery 3 (history) | 06MY Discovery 3 (ancient history)
Mine are set at 125mm from bottom of the strip to top of plastic door trim.
They were fitted by the dealer, but had to be refitted as it was to cold when first put on and they delaminated.http://www.island-weather.co.uk

1. Find a heavy piece of cardboard or bendable plastic.
2. Cut the cardboard or plastic into a rectangle that is the exactly (believe it is 125 mm - 122 mm) the right distance between the bottom of the door/moulding, and the bottom of the protective strip (per the instructions)
3. Tape the cardboard or plastic on the bottom of the door and place the proctective strip on the top of the cardboard/plastic and rotate it up until it reaches the door. It should be at exactly the right height per the instructions.
Sorry if this is confusing, having trouble describing it.....16 D4 Landmark

Tip: try post-it notes instead of masking tape...
first set a post-it vertically, and mark the height on it. Then stick a Post-it horizontally at that height, & remove the first (vertical) height setting post-it.
At the B-Post, I used 1 Post-it straddling the 2 doors (this makes sure they line up)
With all the post-its stuck on, check (sight) the alignment.
Then stick the mouldings on.Long succession of Disco's since 2001...

Confirmation of measurements per instructions
The instructions show the measurements from the top of the door trim (bottom of door) to the bottom of the strip to be:
127mm at end,
125mm in the middle,
and 122mm at the front
Why the difference?

I think this is so the strips run parallel to the top of the pressing at the bottom of the doors.(not the plastic bit at the very bottom). I found these measurements do leave the strips a bit low, leaving likely prone areas of the door still exposed to collect damage, and ended up fitting them 10mm higher than those stated, even this still leaves quite a large area of the door open to clouts. Whatever you decide on, though do fit them rising slightly to the rear by the amount stated.
Leave em off. Side strips are a bit like plastic seat covers i.e seat with a small mark looks better than a seat 100% covered in plastic.
Similarly whats a small ding compared with 16 foot of ugly plastic marring the creaseless doors.I used to hate 4x4's now I'm not so sure...

Disagree - those slab sides need breaking up - get the reflections ones with the chrome inserts Steve N | 21MY Defender | 08MY Discovery 3 (history) | 06MY Discovery 3 (ancient history)
