Spare wire behind drivers power socket

Does anyone know what the purpose of this is? It was attached to a plastic stud behind the drivers side power socket Confused (orange plug with a single red wire)

Think you will find its connected to the lights.

If a cigarette lighter is fitted there is normally a light bulb at the back.

I can also confirm that's the case.

I've been in behind there tonight to tap into the ciggy lighter power to switch the relay for my roof basket spots.

Well, I just used it as the "illumination" signal for the aftermarket GPS/stereo head unit that I fitted (ie, it tells the display to dim when headlights are active) Razz
