Its cold. Check that battery is fully charged. Allow glow plugs (yellow dash spiral light to go out) to warm up. Should help. Otherwise there are threads about this known problem. Do a search (try "cold start" or something) There's one wheel on my wagon, but i'm still rollin' along, it's the cherokee, they're after me, but I'm singing a happy song

IF the starter stops turning, wouldn't that be the starter motor itself.

Unnecessary quote removed
Only on pre 07MY on i think it is. From 07 on it wont start without the clutch pedal being down...

There was a SW update in early '06 which causes this behaviour - primarily to prevent the megafuse blowing but also to reduce stress on starter motor & EPB, this was as a direct result of feedback from LRE centres when training / demonstrating failed hill ascent recovery techniques
...and yes, it will still start on >07MY with the EPB off, in gear and clutch fully engaged

Passive coil on the ignition can sometimes cause this when packing up.
It may be worth a diag chq, if the simpler things like loose wires or battery power dont sort it.

Cheers Guys,
thanks for all your suggestions - its back at the stealers on Weds to do battle with a LR warranty assessor who doesnt want to repair my ball joints so I will get them to have a look at it.

Have you got the extended Land Rover warranty and if so why won't they repair it. 'I am about to buy the LR warranty and was hoping it would cover everything.
