TDV6 to V8 brake disc conversion |
|
Does anyone know if it is beneficial or feasible to change the TDV6 discs to the V8 version and retain the existing callipers. I am lead to believe that the V8 discs are 20mm bigger diameter and should consequently afford better braking and that it is simply a matter of fitting an alternative mounting bracket, I assume standard bracket from V8 variant. if disc replacement is possible does the disc shield also need to be replaced with a bigger version to cover the larger disc. Cooments and advice please. I have 19 inch alloys and beleive it or not 22 inch as well as a seperate set so clearance should not be a problem.

It has been done in the past, I'm not sure what exactly is involved, but Nick (the large one) should be able to let you know what parts are required. I do know you will have to have 19" wheels.

18" wheels just fit on my V8. There is certainly no sense of insufficient brakes with the ones on my D3. The brake pads also seem to be lasting a very long time. Like Gareth says, it has been done - have a search on +V8 +disc
18" wheels will fit fine with the V8 brake disks - have a look at the metal shield round the back of the disc - this is the same part for the V8 and the TDV6 - the V8 discs are the same size as the shield, and the TDV6 discs are about 1" smaller
The caliper is the same, but the caliper mounting bracket has to be changed for the V8 part.
TLO will have the right part numbers

I might have missed somthing here, but if you retain the same calipers then you will also retain the same pads. As a result what will be the benefit as you will end up with the same surface area. MY17 D5 1st Edition Namib Orange

Its more about leverage than surface area. You get 1" more leverage with the larger disc. Thats the way it is on the V8 - same caliper, larger disc.
if you want more than that, then there's the Brembo setup a la RRS

The Oz 2008 and 2009 D3 brochures show the fronts as 317mm and rears as 325mm for all engines. I don't know if that's a misprint or that the V8 just uses bigger front callipers.

V8 has bigger disks front and rear. dead easy to put V8 disks on the front, just V8 caliper brackets needed.
