Any tips on changing Front and rear Brake Pad ?

Hello,

Saturday, i had a message from the onboard computer telling me i should verify my brake pads. Question
Yesterday, as i was replacing my four Stt wheel to come back to onroad wheel, i saw that the brake pad are to be changed. Confused

If anyone has already done that ? Do you have any tips and tricks to change them ?

Is there the sensor cable contained in the brake pad box ?

Thank you for helping. Bow down

and a new sensor cable (assuming only 1 cable triggered the warning), once you have had the warning come up a new cable is required or the warning will still be there when the pads have been renewed.

Thanks Simon.

For now, i still don't know which one (front or rear) sensor brought up the alarm. Front Pads and rear pads seems as weared one from the other.

I'll buy both sensor, and we'll see which one i should change.

Cheers

If you remove the road wheel then the pad sensor can be pulled clear of the pad quite easily to check if it has worn through, from memory it is the left front wheel and right rear that have the sensors. Depending on the roadwheel and the size of your hands it >may< even be possible to check it with the wheel on if the spokes are in the right place!
 Cheers

do you have to adjust the epb when changing front and rear pads ?
if so how do you do that as having a go at changing my pads on monday.
also do you need trolley jack or is the jack that comes with the car fine

You don't have to adjust the EPB if you just change the pads, but if you change the rear discs you do.

You can lift the D3 with the jack that comes with it, but I would definitely put axle stands under the chassis rails when you're working on it. They don't cost alot and it's really not worth the risk.

do you have to adjust the epb when changing front and rear pads ? you only need to adjust the epb when doing the rear ones.

if so how do you do that as having a go at changing my pads on monday. have a look in wiggs gallery for epb instructions.

also do you need trolley jack or is the jack that comes with the car fine I would not trust the supplied jack to lift me let alone the car, use a proper trolley jack and axle stands, check out machine mart for good quality/value kit.

Thumbs Up

If pad wear sensor warning is actuated by low pad thickness it is bcause as the pad wears, and the disc rubs the warning wire through, thus breaking the wire. New wire is £10 ( if you cut the old wires and twist together
remaking the circuit the warning will go out until you get a new one)

If you are only changing the "pads" then you dont need to adjust the EPB
