Next time you complain about your service cost...
I have an old Omega watch that I bought a number of years ago...nothing fancy or expensive,I just liked it.
Recently I noticed it hasn't been keeping very good time,so after a conversation at the SCAM the other evening I emailed an Omega service centre in London to enquire about getting it serviced.....
Got my reply this morning......£470 !!
Think I'll just wind it on every morning thanks "Better to remain silent and be thought a fool,than to speak out and remove all doubt" ?.....what rubbish...

In 1966 in Aden I bought a Rolex Oysterdate (wind -up version) for £25.00. I saved up for a year. The auto version was £30.00 and I couldn't stretch that far on a Marine's pay. It's been a great watch but the servicing costs are also astronomic in relative terms. I've just sent it in for a service and clean - £300
plus P&P.

Always comes back good as new, they ring if there is something that needs doing over and above what is included in the standard service, and they also give you any replaced parts....G4OC Secretary

I use this guy local to me in Stratford-Upon-Avon town centre;
Proper local watch re-seller/jeweller/repairs/service, etc. Has a fully qualified 'premium brands' technician in the shop. Really good personal service I find. Not necessarily cheaper than 'authorised' places but a bit like getting your D3 serviced by an indy in that you get that 'bit extra' and the 'important bits' focussed on
Just waiting for my Zenith El Primero Chrono' to come back after a full strip, few bits and pieces replaced as winder was 'notchy' and a new rotating bezel coming from Switzerland to go on. Cost will be around £500 but £200 of that is for the bezel ring. I had the bezel replaced when I went to collect it after the service as it was chipped and worn after 13 years usage but the rest of the watch now looked like it was brand new.
Used to be able to just buy the 'insert' on the bezel ring for £30-40 but now it comes only as an assembly on the rotating ring itself.
Watch servicing isn't cheap but they last a lifetime with a major one every few years or so and it isn't THAT expensive when you look at it that way. However multiply it by 8-9 watches and it soon starts to look a bit different
