Spare Wheel Cover
Just bought a spare wheel cover off ebay, turned out it was my local LR dealer selling them. I bought one because when I had a puncture the spare wheel was filthy, the cover looks neater and it will be a small deterrent if any thieves try to steel the spare (extra work for them in getting to the release mechanism and might just put them off).
The parts manager said that if anyone off DISCO3 or the RRS site wanted one he would sell them one for £35 + VAT. I won't post the contact details here but if anyone is interested pm me and I'll send you them.
I will not benefit in anyway if anyone buys one and I hope that I have not broke any rules on commercial posts.1996 Discovery 1 300TDI ES Biarritz Blue, sold

Agreed, that would look good with www.disco3.co.uk on it! Mind U, how would it stand up to abuse at Boughrood and other such places??

The bottom of the cover is made out of ABS plastic (I believe), it would probably stand up to abuse well, might get scratched a bit (or torn but if that happened the spare wheel most likely would be damaged as well) though. The rest of the cover is made out of nylon (elasticated loop at the top) which wraps around the spare wheel. The elasticated loop is not near the edge so once the wheel is wound up you can not get to it.1996 Discovery 1 300TDI ES Biarritz Blue, sold

Nice idea, it'd be even better without the extra bit reducing ground clearance and the departure angle, i.e. if it was flush to the wheel all the way aroundThe End

surely that would then be just a normal wheel cover???
...and you would still be able to read the garage name on steep down slopes end of an era ....... maybe a Defender when it appears.......

A normal wheel cover would do the job, but if I remember correctly, on my TD5 wheel cover the elasticated bit only just went past the tread on the inside of the spare wheel whereas with this one the elasticated bit is almost next to the rim on the inside. This in my opinion would make it easier to remove the normal wheel cover whereas with this one the only way to remove it would be to lower the wheel or cut it off.
Slimer, yes it would be better if the wheel cover was flush to the wheel, however it will compress to at least half this size and spring back out again without damage - just tried pushing this biit up by hand. On the other hand it would be a good place to put an orange D3 sticker.1996 Discovery 1 300TDI ES Biarritz Blue, sold

Seems that all the dealers charge different prices for these covers, the other week I noticed one dealer selling them for £59 but as I managed to get mine for £10 on ebay and did'nt have to pay the postage I'm not complaining.
The logo as I said could be replaced very easily or just removed.1996 Discovery 1 300TDI ES Biarritz Blue, sold

Been looking at this and easiest thing to do would be to turn the wheel cover so that the elevated bit is at the back, as then this bit would be almost flush (believe that it would be just under) with the heat guards at the back of the spare wheel well.1996 Discovery 1 300TDI ES Biarritz Blue, sold

How would any water getting inside it drain away? Any drain holes?
I know it's tucked up pretty tight to the underside but is exposed to the elements and certainly the one on my old D2 would get water inside it.

To be honest, I can't remember, there is a slit in the side material though. I can also say that when I lowered my spare the other day to check it, there was no water inside the cover and that's after a few years!
