You need to put the innards from your old key into it.
Read what it says "shell case"
So nothing inside.
If you want a replacement unit you will need a new key that has never been programed.“There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

My old Fob was failing. Got the case similar to the listing and a new battery. replaced the battery (soldering job). swapped all innards to the new case. Job done. £25 (ish)
i did get a quote for a new FOB with programmed transponder over £120.
If you compare that to the listing price something a little amiss,if it does include the transponder it may need programmed to your car and that'll bump up the price i guess not sureWhy does every page of the manual have fingerprints?

Should have read all of it.
As I said though needs to be new and never programed so check before buying. I think you can program with faultmate. Otherwise dealer and they will charge.
I am sure someone will help soon.“There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

A replacement key must be ordered from the dealer as the VIN is used to code the transponder, Faulmate,IDS,SDD can then be used to learn the new key if the coded transponder data matches. Hence why you cant use any old key fob.
The following was copied from the BBS forum LR3 key programming thread.
Quote:
You are quite correct - there is a 'seed' which is implanted into the key which is vehicle-specific. If the seed does not match, neither will the key!
This is VERY common with most manufacturers (I do key programming as part of my business) there is 'pre-coding' whereby data has to be written into the key in order for it to be matched to a vehicle. In the case of, for example, VW, this is a 8-byte encryption (loadsa-combinations) and has to be found from various modules in order to pre-code the transponder for matching to the vehicle. VW dealers do this on line, but for us in the aftermarket, we have to 'find' the bytes...
A blank transponder that does not have the pre-code or seed in it won't match to the vehicle
I have NEVER been able to match a blank key to a D3/RRS - only been able to do it with a 'dealer ordered key'

Unless you can find a third party to code the transponder to the vehicle I would consider it a waste time.GAP IID Pro Multi Vehicle Defender L316 2007-2015 - Discovery 3 - Discovery 4 - Discovery Sport L550 - Freelander 2 - Range Rover Evoque L538 - Range Rover L322 - Range Rover L405 - Range Rover Sport L320 - Range Rover Sport L494 Electrical Fault Diagnostics

You really need to use the search wizz, this topic often crops up and has been covered ad nauseam.
