Automatic folding mirrors
Howdy all,
Just wondering if anyone has made the mirrors automatic with locking/unlocking the car, as I have done this in the past with other cars when they have this feature, and just wondered if anyone has braved this, and has a wiring diagram.......
There was a thread about this very thing about 6/12 ago....general consensus was no, too hard to do....I know what you mean as you can program mercs and BMW's to do just that very trick.2007 HSE Java Black.....sold

Freelander 2 HSE has power fold on lock/unlock. So Land Rover have the technology.

I wonder then, if this can be transferred onto the Disco then.....
Shame you just can't ring up Land Rover and ask - but chances of getting someone with a brain to actually know what you are wanting to do is slim to non existance

Yeah noticed this feature on the Freelander 2. Was very snazzy and also would prove useful and very handy. keen to get it on the D3.2007 Porsche Boxster (987) 2.7

StuRox,
I attemped this a few months back.
I managed to get them working on the remote.Problems i came accross were,
Got them working fine , apart from the auto locking side of it .Mirrors would fold in and out on locking/unlocking ,but if you have it set to auto locking then when you set off the mirrors would close.
There was a few other wiring options i could have tryed but when i traced the wires they were behind the CJB...total nightmare to get at ..so i gave up.
I have wiring diagrams if you want to try it ..
I basically took a signal from the remote (located in the alarm consul above the front seats)..used a relay and connected to a relay in the fuse box..can't remember wire numbers and im not at home to check the diagrams.

Just been looking at doing this again, and have read the old thread with interest, and think the only real way of doing this is maybe hook up to the ignition, so when you turn off, mirrors fold in and switch on, out they come, do you think this will work.
Also, found this thread on a FTO forum, same type of principle....click here

Problem with that is the powerfold mirrors are powered even with the ignition key out !!
Unless the power is cut when it goes into standby mode.G4 Gone ...but not forgotten
This sounds like a much more simple method of doing it. If you have an ignition-sense cable to run to a relay then so long as the car is running the mirrors should be open. Can't see any need for the mirors to be out when the ignition is off........

The brown relay on the left hand side of the fuse box area is the powerfold relay module(D197)
Its a lot easy to take it from there than remove all the door panel.
Pin number 2 - blue wire with black tracer(wire)
This goes directly to powerfold switch.
mmm ...made me wanna give this a try again ...unfortunatly cars in the dealers for a few days so i will have to wait ...
Hope this helpsG4 Gone ...but not forgotten

Wiggs, you seem like a technical guy. Can I ask if it was difficult to get freeview on to your TV in the Disco? Did it come with just terrestrial as standard?

The mirrors on the FL2 are the same as the D3, without going too deep into it, chances are that the CJB software is the main issue in resolving this, it may be possible to fudge it using the switched +ve that feeds the NAV screen, although this will only move the mirrors when the D3 'goes to sleep' another possibility is the supply to the active security module - i've not checked if this is switched or permanent live TBH, it's possible that most of the activity is over the security LIN

I then connected it to the sat nav screen (also fitted a dvd player aswell)
Fairly streight forward...just need some SMB connectors from Farnells to plug into the back of sat nav screen (although you can solder them directly to the screen) these are about £3. each.
Picture quality is great as long as your in a digital area ..these are getting more and more .Its preaty useless while driving , but i have to wait around some times for my job so i use it then .
I am looking at some better ariels ..i did consider using the ones in the rear side windows but the parts worked out very expensive.
If you need any more info just let me know ..links to the connectors etc ..take a look at my gallery http://www.disco3.co.uk/gallery/thumbnails.php?album=839 for some pics. The wiring is better now that was when i was testing.G4 Gone ...but not forgotten

or how about to the cigarette lighters in the centre console, as I have my Origin B2 plumbed into these, and this stays on even if the ignition is off (like the radio) until the key is pulled out of the ignition, so might be better than the actual ignition 'on' feed ?
