This topic got me motivated as I to have a dislike for the red heater symbol and as I have already fitted a FBH on indicator direct from the FBH pump to a LED fitted inside/on top of the original. When the FBH is running the indicator glows yellow, when the lights are on it glows red, when both are on it glows orange, crude but it is better than nothing.

After modifications I have this-

I first tried an LED that would light from 3volts with near catastrophic results, when I connected the battery I got the Christmas tree effect, even the ignition came on with the hazard lights Shocked . I disconnected it and cleared all faults with the Iid tool and praise be everything was back to stage one, I checked the voltage across the original LED terminals on the panel and it read 1volt, the next problem was where to obtain a 1 volt LED, I remembered I had a broken LED torch that had 8 LED's and sure enough it worked.
So by removing the red LED from the instrument panel and soldering on two extension wires to the ex torch LED, drilling a 3mm hole into the spare tube on the panel I have the above.

Rear of the panel.

Downsides so far is blue tends to be confusing with full beam I think I will change it for green, the colour is only a 15mm length of electric tape and the temp gauge will not go below normal, hopefully it is just a matter of taking off and repositioning.
 It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.
