Discovery 3 Multi Height Towbar Owners (((Should Read)))

Hey Guys,

Nick here from "Yeovil Land Rover"

Iv'e held back from posting here now for some time but most people i speak to from the forum have
said "come on in" so here i am. Hope i can help with any queries that might come along.
I will respect though the commercial posting rule.

You may be aware that the "Multi Height Towbar VUB501430" disapeared a while ago and took a while to come back with a new part number LR005740.

Well Land Rover have issued a Service Action bulletin Number Q003 regarding the old towbar asking us dealers to identify the customers we have supplied this towbar to and requesting them to make their vehicles available at their earliest convenience, for a modification to be undertaken.

They are replacing the rear back plate (the part highlighted in the image)

This Action has only just come out so some dealers may not yet have seen/read the bulletin but i know most of the posters on this forum are more proactive and will contact their dealer for advice so the information you will need is

Service Action Number: Q003
Part number affected VUB501430
Replacement part number LR005741

It will be replaced FOC...should take around 15mins

Any more information required on this action you can contact Land Rover on 0870-850-8447.

Catch you guys around..

Nick

Hi Nick,

Does that mean that they are now selling the MHTB? Does it have a new complete part number?

& Welcome to the site, I agree with those that have said you should stop lurking! Thumbs Up

After buying from you it's nice to see you on here Nick. I may be giving you a ring soon about a high-level air intake (just need to persuade her ladyship).

Hello, Nick, do you know what the problem was with the old one? I've been using mine for 3 years, swapping it from car to car on an annual basis, towing all round europe with no obvious problem.

Hi pko,

This is verbatim for the letter you should recieve.

"Through ongoing development of Land Rover towing equipment, improvements to the drop plate used in the multi height towing equipment has given rise to the release of an improved adaptor plate (drop plate) design that has greater durabilty when the tow ball is mounted in the highest setting of 500mm. The revised design better protects the adaptor plate from bending forces."

I would advise that you contact your dealer just as a precaution to get yours first in the queue.

As Land Rover had no control over whom us dealers sold too the have now way of knowing which vehicles need updating so it will be down to dealers to troll through there sales invoices from 2005 to present day and hopefully they have contact details.

This is why i decided to post this on the forum as you guys are a credit to the ownership experience, and so many, like me lurk/lurked and will read this and contact their dealer.

Tow bar

Does that mean that the replacement item PN LR005740 is now freely available?

Forget the question, just seen this mornings post. Embarassed

A-ha! That explains the ease with which mine got bent during an undocumented reversing incident (partner driving). Bench press got it back in shape, but it's rusted pretty quickly. I'll tie up a replacement with the 2 year service.
