Also a sizeable crack in my windscreen...besides a busted spare wheel winch
I have to phone the insurance company on Monday....
I have read many threads on here about the right & wrong way to approach this
I believe my insurance company use National Windscreens....are they any good ?
Am I right in saying I have to insist on a genuine LandRover / Pilkingtons screen ?
what else do I need as well as the clips for the side trims ?
what else do I have to instruct them in taking care of ?
what about the wipers rest position ?BREXIT - done properly.

can you not ask your insurer if you can go to lr dealer for the change ...
like a lot of these insurance things they have their favourites, and you don't need a quote to use them...but they may let you go to lr dealer if you get a quote first.
be interested in how you get on
Insurers phoned & they nominated National Windscreen as their repairer...
National Windscreens called me
....some discussion as to whether my Disc was a 3 door or five door ? ( me what planet are they on) its a DISCO 3
....then what model disco ?..its an HSE it has a heated windscreen whats your registration number ?....oh its a Disco 3 - has it a heated screen ?....I've just told you that..it has
has it got a rain sensor?........yes all HSE's have this
we'll get back to you with a schedule...
they did "we can do this tomorrow"
have you ordered all the clips for the a pillar trims ?
yes we have ...why do you ask that ? I just wanted to make sure that the important clips are provided & fitted
will this be an OEM Land Rover windscreen ?...NO we never fit those ....the insurance company doesnt allow that
I checked with my insurance company & they said its between me & National Windscreens
So National Windscreens called & the question asked again...why not an OEM windscreen ? well...the non-OEM ones are far cheaper as that dont have a LandRover emblem on them...thats the only difference
who are the non-OEM screens made by ?....oh various other makers....Sekurit....StGobain...but not Pilkington & it won't be an OPTICOOL..but it will be a heated one I then asked If I could pay the difference between the non-OEM one & the pucker LandRover OEM part
the answer to that was - I could but that Land Rover never have any stock...& when they do have stock that are on long delivery lead times
I had already checked...there is plenty of Stock at LandRover...Land Rover quoted me a next day delivery.
I just wonder if the tale that have told me is quite as that say it is or are they just ready to take this punter for a ride ? (believe me they won't)
there may be nothing wrong with non-OEM screens...?
but how do other makers have the correct build jigs...?
...have the right quality credentials...?
...prove their screens pass the strict LandRover vendor tests....? (I used to work for a tier one supplier to LR...they are as keen as mustard)
&
make things considering it has a Ford patent ?
So I am now waiting for a confirmation phone call from National Windscreens...
I am neither impressed or confident..
A Genuine LandRover screen is priced 483 pounds + vat.....I will be interested to learn what the difference is + the 50 pounds excessBREXIT - done properly.

I have had two non OEM heated screens and no issues. Sorry, but I don't get the problem. I think sometimes there is a lot of noise without any rational behind it, particularly when you think how many non OEM parts are fitted to members cars.

Even my lowly base 7 seater model has a Pilkington Optikool laminated screen, + obviously you want the heated /rain sensing version...and one that doesn't fail at the first hint of frost ...insist on that as a minimum spec BLF.

I recently had exactly the same debacle a couple of weeks ago with our JCW MINI. It was Auto Windscreens this time after I nominated that I wanted a genuine windscreen. Slight delay in that it needed the authority of the insurer to authorise a more expensive OEM windscreen. After a day they came back and said they had ordered one and it had been authorised. Three weeks later and eight complaint phone calls finally got them to fit it!
The company was dire, the communications appalling and my blood pressure went through the roof!
Kept blaming BMW for lack of stock but I knew they were available on an overnight delivery!
Finally fitted by a very apologetic fitter who was a diamond and was about to jack his job because the back room staff were so rubbish!
Good luck!
Go for the genuine one! You know it's worth it!

I've had non OEM replacement windscreens from National Windscreens and they have been fine. In truth, I think your getting unnecessarily stressed.

I had them out to replace mine in my previous D4 a couple of months back, 2 vans turned up together at the house and when I asked why, the guy said it is to do with H&S as we have to have 2 people to lift the screen into these Range Rovers cus they are high up then, after I'd paid him £780 on my company credit card he went on to tell me that he could have fitted it himself (including the screen) in his own time for just over £100 cash under their Friends & Family scheme - even through I'd never met him in my life before, nice mark- up for National Windscreens. I'm sure he told me that N W are owned by some Belgium or Australian bloke or it might have been a South African company ?On a mission to find the perfect Pork Pie. Just Found it (I think)..(Yes I have)

In the words of the fitter who came out and did mine he said ' I would always fit OEM to my own cars, those others are rubbish, half of them don't fit properly' he then went on to say that it was to do with the curvature of the glass that some manufacturers of aftermarket couldn't get right....
It's the same as with any genuine parts argument...yes there are perfectly serviceable components out there... It's a matter of personal choice...

National windscreens have replaced my screen without issue with OEM Screens, service was great and no issues other than the new screens been stone magnets a week later
I am with LRI though so only use OEM parts on repair
My experience on non OEM screens were that the rear view mirror fell off and autoglass replaced with OEM under their guarantee

I've had bad experiences in the past with a non original screen in a 5 series.
6 months of driving between the dealers and auto windscreens to try to get the auto wipers and headlights to work again!!
The really annoying thing is that auto windscreens were great, and even took out the windscreen they'd just fitted and sourced a genuine BMW one and fitted that FOC. According to the BMW dealer that would solve the problem.
Imagine how surprised I was when it didn't
I did blow a fuse when the dealer did eventualy own up to the fact that the software needed to be reflashed and they'd have to charge me £60 for the privilage. needless to say the £60 was never paid!
There was nothing wrong with the OEM screen, it was just a problem with the ECU that detected that the sensor had been removed and refused to play ball after that.
That's the main reason I bought the Nanocom. Not being caught out like that again!!Lee

Autoglass did a great job on my D4 (heated / sensors) - when I asked abou the A trim clips - he pulled a bag out of the drawer - 'are these what you mean?'
Asked for a LR one, had to wait a few days longer

Just make sure your heated screen works properly after! When the Freelanders screen was replaced one side of the screen did not defrost at all. I complained to Autoglass who replaced the windscreen free of charge.Arrived: 2014.5 Range Rover Sport HSE SDV6 in Loire Blue, Ivory interior, piano black trim, privacy glass, panoramic sunroof, tow bar, mudflaps and full size spare 8)
