Torque curves are entirely different between petrol & diesel engines, generally torque starts later & power rises earlier on a petrol engine whereas with a TDV6 peak torque is around 2400 rpm and peak power is around 3600 rpm with a fast rise in torque and a longer increase in power.
Petrol engines generally have (and require) less torque at lower rpm whereas diesel engines produce peak torque at (relatively) low revs. Petrol engines are less prone to wheel spin at low revs but often don't have the 'pulling power' required at low speeds.
Engine wear is unlikely to be an issue as most driving patterns mean that the engine will not be continually loaded - unlike test bed or test mule situations where endurance testing is designed to break the engine or induce premature wear. remapping can in most circumstances ( i.e. where it is installed to use the benefits of increased torque and fuel economy, not as a 'performance' increase) can actually reduce engine wear... less fuel in the engine = less carbon & sulphur deposits = less oil contamination, therefore more lubrication. Carbon build up in the engine & exhaust can also restrict performance and cause bushing wear on valve guides, turbo's etc.
I'm not claiming that remapping is entirely beneficial for your engine, but it shouldn't be seen as bad for it either.
Don't forget that any engine manufacturer Will have cut down the development tune by as much as 50% to ensure that one tune is suitable for all markets, most remaps only recoup up to 30% of the improvements available

cheers

is a remap and an LR software up date and upgrades and resetting flashing the ecu as I have read that after 14 flashes it needs to be replaced.

The remap doesn't change the write count as it doesn't rewrite the whole ECU

Ok tried a quick acceleration test this evening...the scenario is:
D3 TDV6 Auto
Normal gearbox mode
Expo rack
MTR tyres
A -Bar
Spots
Rear Ladder
Mantec Plate
Fuel load: Approx. 30 litres
35kgs of gear in the boot
95kg of driver in front
Measurement device: Garmin Forerunner 305 professional GPS stopwatch
GPS chip: High Sensitivity SiRF starIII architecture.
Position accuracy < 10 m
Velocity accuracy < 0.05 m/s
Dynamics -Max G force specification ~ 6g/s
Device activated at Entry slip road - A3 southbound Esher continuing at normal pace to A3 Cobham. I came off at this junction and entered the A3 northbound entry sliproad stopping on the hard shoulder at the bottom for traffic to clear. At 05.27 on the clock I accelerated hard and the results can be seen as follows.

Not completely sceintific I appreciate but nonetheless as accurate as many could register IMHO....
A 0-60 time of 10 seconds given all the kit and tyres etc is outstanding in my book
what would a standard model do ? 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

Acceleration – secs 0-60 mph
Manual 11.2 seconds
Auto 11.7 seconds
Obviously in standard trim
The main increase is in low-down torque so 0-30 or 10-40 will be a LOT quicker than standard, to be honest, you'd probably achieve similar performance with a trailer on the back! 8)

Well I perhaps meant a standard car with the tune but without all the kit and with standard roadies on...could you feasibly knock another 1 \ 1.5 seconds off ?????21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

probably....
got 9.2 0-60 mph on a one-off test with mine, including all the bolt-ons, MT/R's, roofrack, kit, etc. obviously a subjective result and TBH the 0-60 isn't the main reason (for me) in having a remap, the boost in low-down torque and improvements in 'driveability', even on an 07MY are significant enough to justify it for me 8)

No I agree ...I'm not a 0-60 freak either ...but I wanted to give an indication of a tangible improvement 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

So real world... overtaking will be a real hoot then
Mind you... still damn impressed at how my MY2004 D3 moves around once on the go... easily keeping up with the fast flow on the motorways, even at 70MPH+ and then zooting along the B roads home. Still returning over 32MPG today on a trip from South Shrops to Middlesborough and back
If I had the readies now and a D3 that was going to be with me post Dec 24th... I would grab a tune from Mr Torq !

TBH, on motorways you'd not notice much difference sub-65mph (that's when the power boost makes a difference) and from my experience, thats the same for TC, JE & TT...
you would notice a difference in 70-90 mph acceleration keeping it in a high gear though as the torque improvements are more noticable at lower revs - although you'd need to go to parts of Europe to enjoy the difference... legally
