Ok, so I think that there are two things going on here.

I can see that the gearbox connector is dry above, and wet below. The gearbox sump is a little wet. So I think that there is a small leak from the connetor, but not much.

Once the guards were removed, it was obvious that the oil was engine oil. The wettest part was at the joint of the gearbox and engine. Looking through the inspection hole in the bottom of the gearbox, you can see that the torque converter and the inspection hole are completely dry.

If you look at the top of the engine, there's nothing obvious. Above the starter motor appears to be wet.

Does anyone have any ideas as to where it may be coming from? Possibly the rear of the rocker cover? Are there any oil lines that may possibly wear through that could leak?

I've just had exactly the same with my D4 engine oil leaking and dripping from the bell housing and being blown back to the transfer box cross member. Rear camshaft oil seal leaking on the nearside it turned out to be so back to the dealer for the body off to replace the seal!

I don't think its the crank oil seal. If it were, wouldn't that show with oil on the torque converter? Also, one other thing I forgot is that the leak appears to be worse if I park the car with the front facing uphill.

Check the oil filter housing, in case it's leaking up in the vee of the engine and running down over the bell housing.

Sorry typing error on my behalf on mine it was the rear camshaft oil seal on the nearside not the crank.

Camshaft oil seal makes sense. I just need to see if it really is that. Is there an easy way of checking, or is it just a question of wiggling a mirror down and seeing what you can see?

What is involved in a camshaft seal change?
