So good I bought another one...
After 12 months of log burner D3 ownership we've bought a second one following terminal failure of our Nissan Pathfinder's engine (wouldn't buy another one!). And the good news is that the second one is a V8. My life has been V8 free for the last 12 months following the sale of the RS6, prior to which I had a V8 Defender for 12 years.
After de-blinging the V8 (whipping off the spot lights and using a hairdryer to remove chrome shields, fog light surrounds, and window surrounds) we're getting there.
Fuel economy is an interesting comparison:
There are some clunking bushes on the V8 but it seems pretty immaculate for its years. Just need to remove the shiny shiny side steps and we're on the path to normality!

interesting fuel figures i get about 28mpg averaged over a tank of diesel out of my 07 D3 SE
but if the V8 is turning out that kinda figures i might be tempted as she who must be obeyed has decreed (man do i love this woman) that we can own a second disco!! as she loves our first one so much

Mine has run at 19,08 mpg over the last 150,000 kms and on long stretches goes well above that - up to 23 mpg on a brim-to-brim basis. All the distance I do in cities and with the caravan on brings the number down.
